DEBATE: What do you think about 12 year olds playing PR?

Post by PlasmaSoldier »

I myself think that it is ok but only if they dont destroy the game for others, and we older people should treat them as if they were as old as us.

What do you think?

As long as they enjoy the game and goes with the gameplay on the server, I don't really care about a players age.

In my perfect world

1) Age restrictions on games would be heavily enforced
2) Games that are violent would be 16+ accross the board

If I was a father or older brother I would not let my son/brother play games that were either above his age or if I thought he wasn't ready for them.

I don't want to play with 12 year olds etc as I feel inhibited, I cannot chat about mature topics with my mates while I play, I cannot swear etc for fear of exposing these young innocents or being a bad influence on them (as young men are impressionable, and imitate heavily)

However we don't play in a perfect world, thus I'll do my best to teamwork with our younger players, and be as clean as possible :D

Age Restrictions do have a reason.

There might be kids able to play PR (or whatever other game) the way it should be. And can interact with other players the way it should be. But in the end they should be doing something else, something same aged kids do.

Oh...and I will ask everyone beyond that age (if he/she gives it away) to leave and come back when they are old enough...

Most of the little ones that plays these games do not have a proper maturity level. I really don't care if they play single player games likes this, but for them to be involved in the community of almost exclusively multilayer games like this is different. Playing with random people who don't automatically know a little kid is playing with them means a whole bunch of issues that kid hasn't faced in his life could come up. Personally me and my mates talk about things while playing that I wouldn't want a 12 year old to partake in. That being said there are some remarkably mature 12 year olds. All in all its up to the parents of the children to monitor their online activity to keep their children safe.

Well going along with the sniper debate in another thread (not to mix topics, just pointing out the similarities), I find the majority of the "xXSniperFearMeXx" sort of names, who hog sniper kits and loose them to the opposing team within the first few minutes of gameplay, have high-pitched voices.

As long as the kid behaves in game, I don't mind having him in my squad. I refuse, however, to have him as my SL because I don't think I have yet met a 12 year old who has the self control to lead a squad. Period.

If I'm SL and have a 12 year old, I won't kick them immediately, but rather watch and see how they do. I also limit them to a plain rifleman kit - no AR, no medic, no sniper, no grenadier... nothing.

If I can't avoid it, I play with underage players.

If possible, my squadmates are 18+.

It depends on how they play and if they play right. I started playing PR when I was 13 and no one ever thought about it, most of the time they thought I was around 16. But that was probably because I listened to my SL and didn't getting any kit they asked.

If I don't notice they are 12 idc, if they play properly they an be in my squad. They're weird - but they can be in my squad ;)

12yr old is just a generic term for a smactard now, the age does not apply, people just say 'OMG 12YR OLD NOOB!11' when someone is new or messing around.

Age is not the problem, as GoreZiad said its attitude.

As long as they follow orders and don't do anything stupid im fine with kids. Though i have seen a number of kids calling the chinese team the "C***k's". Really though alot of those kids are mature enough to listien and to participate condversations that older people would talk. Hell, i myself started PR at 14.

Thank you!

I don't mind age at all, just attitude.

I first played PR when I was 12.

QTF.

Look at the player base, most are, shall I say, 17ish (win some loose some) +. The minority of the player base is the 12 year olds. We're not always the idiots. You see what I'm saying? There's alot more older people acting like idiots (spermcubearchives) than younger people being idiots.

I have met some teenagers that were literally a pain in the a$$ - lack of discipline, screaming over voip, hot-shot thinking but I've also met 2 very young players that completely changed my mind in this matter. They were both very disciplined and followed orders, asked the squad leader before taking an important decision and so on. Perfect team players. Even if this may represent 10% of the PR gamers of this age, it is enough to convince me not to leave such a squad immediately after I hear "that" voice. It's a shame I forgot their names.

However I will not judge anyone that simply refuses to play with young people because he had a bad experience in the past. Some people call certain opinions racism, elitism and prejudice, in the police we call it statistics. If 90% of certain sort of criminality is executed by people of certain age, race or social class, is it wise to ignore this fact or not? Only fools and idealists choose to ignore statistics. I am one of them but I also can't judge anyone that doesn't share my optimism.

Ehh I'm 14 I started playing when I was 12. I have faced much prejudice since I started playing.

Thought I tend to be a **** when people piss me off and I can be a teamplayer, depends if people are screaming OMG GIRL GIRL GIRL at me.
