Sound

Post by m0ldym1lk »

I'm on a spree with these suggestion threads :D

Anyhow, I'm sure most of us have all fired firearms at some point in our life, and/or have heard them fired. In every game I've played, with the exception of Call of Duty, the weapon sounds die off WAY too close. You can be 15 feet away from someone in BF'42 and pretty much every other game and the sound becomes extremely muffled and quiet. I suggest that the distance before sounds become muffled and drowned out be made significantly farther than seen in almost every game on the market today. Annoys the **** out of me when someone is across a trench and their rifle sounds like a pea-shooter, when it should still be sounding loud as hell

A great idea. I think once you get so far away, it should turn into popping noises. Let me see if I can make a sound sample.

in call of duty which i play more then any other game, you can hear it the sniper gun makes the most noise,(no duh) but you get to a certain point away where you can just bearly hear it or not hear it at all depends on how far u are. but if you dont have headphones you wont hear it at all.

but if anyone ever see some of those videos, i am sure the guys of this mod have seen and watched some videos on the net, i find some in the internet and edit the post after would.

edit, ok alot of sound and such going on in this video you need bitterront to dl this at http://www.bittornado.com/download.html

now in this video there is a fire fight, listen carefully to the taliban, shoot from far away and the SF shoot back can you hear the echo so great because there in the open (would sound diffrent if in a house) also the apache just the sound of it is amazing, you can hear its gun and see the missles also fireing and shooting enjoy ^^http://www.militaryvideos.net/torrents/ ... pg.torrent

I went to a firing range one time, with my friend and his dad. My ears were still ringing an hour or so after I got home.....(had the crappy kind of ear plugs). But yeah if you are in a fire fight you should not be able to hear someone over voice chat unless they are screaming.

I agree. Many games only focus on the graphical side of the game and skip the work that needs to be done on sound.

Sound really makes a difference. It could be the determining factor like it was in CoD.

Yeah, sound does make a huge diffrence in the overall gameplay, it would be neat if you could make the sound echo, like if you were in a canyon and a bomb goes off in the canyon, the sound would echo off the canyon walls.

They were already tlaking about how great the audio in bf2 is. Talking about dopling and whatnot. Unfortunately i dont know all the audio terms ;)
But they sounded proud of themself when they were talking about it.

If its anything like bf1942 its going to be pretty decent. BF1942 had damn good sound when it first came out.

Hell i need to replace this Creative player live! card 8)

What about silencers? In DC the SF have silenced CAR-15s but they're not really silenced, you can still hear them from 30ft away. The only real benifit is that the silencer hides the muzzle flash(I think that's what it's called). Any word on silenced weapons in the game?

Silencers don't make the gun actually silent. When a weapon is equiped with a silencer, it sounds more like someone stomping their foot on concrete. It won't be absolutely quiet, but it sure as hell doesn't sound like a normal gunshot would

Do you think it would be possible to have an effect to simulate the bullet breaking the sound barrier? Because even with a silenced gun, you will still hear a crack from the bullet making a sonic boom. I think that would be cool, and it would add a little bit of extra realism(always good!). :D

The loudness of a gun is the bullet breaking the sound barrier. Silencers are silent because they decrease the velocity of the gun to the point where it doesn't make a sonic boom

Correct. Which is exactly why silenced weapons aren't that effective from larger distances, which is why they really wouldn't be effective in the game.

It would be cool for looks, but that's about it.

I didnt know that. I was wondering why people don't silence sniper rifles, i thought the bullet velocity was changed, but now i know for sure.
