This fix only works with Multi-Core Processors. There is a problem with BF2 and the threading with multiple cores which has not been fixed. I have had to do this on both Vista and Windows 7.
Step 1. Disable UAC- This is a must.
Step 2. Run as admin by right-clicking PR, then log into your account.
Step 3. Minimize game (Alt+Tab), for this you may need the Alt+Tab fix.
Step 4. Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and enter Task Manager.
Step 5. On Processes tab, find BF2.exe and PR.exe, Right-Click them and Set Affinity to core 0. Uncheck all other cores except core 0. Then exit Task Manager.
Step 6. Play PR, have fun and enjoy!
Bad thing about this is you have to do it EACH time you play. It only takes me about 10 seconds though after I get PR running.

Re: My Vista/Win7 CTD fix
PR runs flawlessly in Windows Vista and Windows 7 with UAC on.
If you want to change processor affinity, it can be done directly from the shortcut using command line like this:
or in 64-bit Windows versions:
If you have installed BF2 to some other folder than "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2", then change the path above accordingly.
If you want to change processor affinity, it can be done directly from the shortcut using command line like this:
Code: Select all
C:\Windows\cmd.exe /c start "PR" /affinity 1 "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +widescreen 1 +restartCode: Select all
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe /c start "PR" /affinity 1 "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +widescreen 1 +restart
