MOTY 2009 Mod of the Year Voting has begun
Apologize if this was already posted some where in the forum. It is not highlighted on the "News" page.
Phase 1: Nominations
From December 20th to January 5th every indie game and mod on the site has a voting booth activated in their profile. It is now up to you, to find your favorites, play them and vote for them - so we can narrow thousands of contenders down to the players choice top 100.
Phase 2: Top 100
On January 6th the Top 100 mods and indie games you voted for in phase 1 will be announced and a second round of voting will commence until February 21st. Again, it is up to you, to vote for your top 3 in this list - so we can narrow the top 100 down to a handful of winners.
Phase 3: Winners Showcase
Early February after thousands of votes have been tallied, we shall be announcing the 2009 Players and Editors Choice winners. These indie games and mods will be showcased in an exclusive video presentation and editorial writeup. Download links will be given so you can play the years best.
Vote for Project Reality:
Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2 - Mod DB

I was under the impression that PR could not win again as it won last year?

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "

It is in the list of games available to be voted on.
I voted for PR
Even if you can't win it, it would be good plubicity to see strong support for PR.

Re: MOTY 2009 Mod of the Year Voting has begun
I know that if PR gets less votes than last year it will still receive an honorary mention, but I'm not sure if it can get MOTY again if it receives more.
I'm voting for it regardless as I think every PR player should. To at least show our support.
Didn't realize I would only have 3 votes in Phase 2, I guess I'll have to be pickier as I voted for several mods in Phase 1:
- PR (Obviously)
- Goldeneye Source (classic N64 game resurrected on PC)
- SA:MP (GTA:SA w/ 500 player customized servers)
- Galactic Warfare Beta (New COD4 SW Mod, playing great already)
- FH2 (Flaky community but quality stuff)
- First Strike (BF2142 SW mod, no players but still impressive)
I might narrow it down to PR, GE:S and SA:MP, since FH2 and FS have been in the top 10 before. Galactic Warfare is an early beta so it's probably fairer to vote for it in MOTY 2010 after it's more developed.
+ Natural Selection 2 for unreleased IGOTY
I wonder. If 0.9 is released before Phase 3 ends, whether the new content and updates make a difference in it's chances of being in the top 10 again.

Re: MOTY 2009 Mod of the Year Voting has begun
Just watched the promo vid here:2009 Mod of the Year Awards event - Mod DB
I think the announcer 'slightly exaggerated' about the ongoing popularity and community strength of some of the previous MOTY winners.
Lets take a look at the player stats ATM for each:
MOTY 2002 - Natural Selection (HL) = 177 (Indie sequel in the works)
MOTY 2003 - The Specialists (HL) = 33 "Still has one of the strongest communities ever"
MOTY 2004 - Red Orchestra (UE2) = 121 (Indie now)
MOTY 2005 - Garry's Mod (HL2) = 1,585 (Indie now)
MOTY 2006 - Point of Existence 2 (BF2) = 4 "One of the most played Battlefield 2 mods available"
MOTY 2007 - Insurgency (HL2) = 131 "Getting more and more popular everyday"
MOTY 2008 - Project Reality (BF2) = 440 (Was over 1200 earlier today)
Source: Game-Monitor
The Specialists dwindled out years ago, we all know POE2 died and I remember Insurgency having a lot more players in the past.
So the very-nerdy-sounding Aussie editor clearly has no idea about the current popularity of Half-Life and Battlefield mods.
