<3 ATI

Post by Peeta »

Not really...

So my uhh 2 day old 5850 has already crashed my computer twice with a grey screen on map loading in PR. But now I'm screwed. It crashed for the second time, but now the computer can't boot into the OS. I cannot select anything with the keyboard. It just automatically goes past the dual-boot selection selecting Windows 7 then it gets on the startup recovery screen (I still cant use the keyboard), it goes into Startup Recovery and BSOD's with some bs about ACPI is not compatible with this BIOS or something like that.

Like I said I'm pissed because this is a two day old video card AND a 2 day old 600w PSU(came with the card), so help would be nice. :) Thanks.

System Specs:

Newegg.com - Thermaltake TR2 W0388RU 600W ATX 12V v2.2 Power Supply - Power Supplies (my exact PSU)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
4 GB DDR2 RAM

You do sometimes get faulty hardware. It happens.

There have been quite a few problems with 5850s, it's worth RMAing it.

Quite a few problems is a bit of a understatement.

All you need to do is search any gaming forum or even the ATI forums and i personally believe AMD/ATI have been deleting threads on the matter. Rumour is they've acknowledged the problem and found out the cause but the 'cause' has been proven to be a lie (downplaying the real issue/s).

RMA it or wait for next driver and if that doesn't work then you RMA it.

If you really want help "some BS" appearing on your screen is not really the best way to describe an issue.
Full message (including the STOP code if any would help).

Can you get into the BIOS? Is your keyboard a USB one? If so did you try plugging it into different hubs?
What is your motherboard?

Ask him again and again until he says so. He could help other people with this.

I'm rather certain there was nothing wrong with the card though ;)

A lot of people have reported various fixes. Some include raising the voltage of it but hat isn't something you should have to do to make your hardware work properly.

However, AMD/ATI still insist it is only a Windows7 issue.

He thinks it was heat-related, the pc was left off and unplugged overnight and then it worked the next morning. I don't know how that could really help.
