Muttrah city - the "shield" of the carrier

Post by W4lt3r89 »

-Where- Virginia USA 24/7 Muttrah City

Just moment ago me and my Cobra pilot (Randomi) were flying the cobra slowly out of the carrier at about 200-300 altitude and holded for a second in the air to wait for lasers, when all of a sudden our Helo's engine decided to turn off and we plummeted to the ocean.

I'm pretty sure it's a bug since there wasn't any AA / HAT / LAT / BTR's and docks was still relatively far in the fog so it wasn't hostile damage.

Checked the bug list with "muttrah" for search and found no report of this so thought to write it up.

How can you be so sure there wasn't any AA / HAT / LAT / BTR's?

Where exactly were you? I'm not sure how far the 'shield' spans from the carrier...

BTW, AA rockets can see through the fog.

Its impossible that the shield can affect you, unless you shoot something at it close, or someone else does.

I cant recall the exact grid but i could say about 300m from the carrier or so. Our team had set up rather decent defence at the north / WCC street line, along with APC support at both streets.
How i can say that it wasn't a LAT / HAT? Because you can hear it fly towards you before you go boom, HAT takes it down from single hit. It takes several repeated hits from a BTR to take down a Cobra, although the altitude we were at that time was too high for them to engage.

Yes, I am aware that the AA can lock to about 1300m, even though the user can see the lock till to about 700m at Muttrah, but that would have taken the chopper down again in single hit without a nosedive (in scenario when flares are not deployed)

You wont notice a LAT though. What you explained was most likely one.

I would say it sounds like friendly fire from the carrier.

BTR fire can be fairly silent, especially in the gunner's seat. If we ever get chewed up by a BTR, I usually only hear one or two 'tinks' against the side and Mr. Warning Alarm goes off. If you were located in the Bay area South of Docks but Northeast of the Fortress, the back road could of had a BTR on it shooting you from a angle.

If you were to the East of Docks then that is a lower chance and unlikely. But what was brought up about interference with the dome could be true. The dome it meant to stop AA and other stuffs from getting though and maybe you fired some rounds off by accident and the spash hit the Cobra.

Can disagree on that as well.. Carrier was empty next to 1 huey pilot there in his chopper.
I'll see if i can redo the bug later this week and report back. In an empty server.

your chopper could have been on critical damage and you simply "bled out" and reached the point of damage where your engine fails.

This aint a bug with the "carrier shield" so going to lock this topic...
