Commanders Spot Hot Zones (For Helis)

Post by alberto_di_gio »

I made a quick search but couldn't find out exactly related topic. So I hope this is new. (though there is more than 200 commender topics so if this is re-suggestion sorry)

Clear as day that the most vital danger for choppers (especially for trans helis) are "Hot Zones" threatened by AAs. If there is an dedicated and well coordinated "Huey/Trans" squad pilots are warning each other but never enough.

Shortly... how about giving commander potential to spot the "hot zone" for choppers. It may work like that:
  • As soon as Commander spot an AA a transparent red zone may come out on the map indicating the hot zone/threat area of it (smthng like i did draw on the below map)
  • It may be visible either only for pilots (is that really possible?) or for whole team.
Being visible for whole team will also help inf. to chose the best drop point who is requesting the trans. This will also reduce the time killing discussion between the pilot and the passengers. Plus squads can coordinate their movement according to spotted hot zones before they request transport/supply/drop etc. if they know the threat zone.

Been talking alot about that with clanmates, feels kinda odd that its not in the game yet. Could improve alot on public servers trimming down the number of downed choppers, which is done fairly easily without communication between the whole team. As of now, you need every body in the field to keep an eye out and then report, does happen but not nearly enough. The zones need to be less visible and removable, for when the AA get taken out.

Best idea thats been on these forums in a long time :)

All for it, only problem is it could become a bit of a problem for spotting and operations being marked on the map.

What about simply an outline, or perhaps toning down the colour a bit, to make it a bit more dull.

I agree with the concept but it would need to be tweaked so it doesn't cover the map. Maybe a transparent circle? Perhaps if possible have the ability to 'drag out' circles to make them bigger or smaller depending on the threat?

It is a great idea, the only problem i see is that the AA range circle is based on the AAs range on the map. Since maps vary in size the circles size need to differ between maps. I.E that red circle would be alot smaller on Kashan. Maybe it is possible, I´m not a coder.

Great idea:

Less aircraft destroyed
Force TW on inf squads to take out AA
Force enemy to redeploy AA's more often

Of course we could ask for an anti radar missile....

Any bluefor radar will pickup the exact launch spot of an AA rocket - so this is realistic if you ask me - but also gives away firebase area - which is also realistic, this means the people firing the AA, risk to comprimise a "stronghold" to take down an asset. I really really like it.

This could work :) The mark might just be too big

As stated before I like, but this could redude teamwork as the heli pilots are less dependant on TW to report AA zones?

Sorry to crash your party folks, but it's impossible for the game -- OR the commander! -- to know every area the AA can possibly see. Common sense and knowing where the launch point is works best.

Just have a marker where helis have taken fire or a lock-on. Its as simple as that

Its useful, but in theory the commander should be passing on this information to trans squads anyhow.

true, and this is why I Disagree.

It's a good suggestion - but it would give the CO even less to do as AA is automatically marked rather than the Helis having to report to the CO that there is AA at Docks.

I think this would be a great addition, most pub nub chopper pilots are incapable of avoiding AA fire. If the circle could be limited to the true diameter of the AAs range, I'm all for it.

As I understand it, the circle would be placed by the commander on or near a spotted AA. That doesn't require the game or the commander to know "everwhere the AA can possibly see", just a spot of the AA or one of its missile launches

I see all the Heli Pilots going yeah!!! what about the opposition, who rely on placing a member on these aa's all round. Its not the most exciting job. All those mountains to deploy Sniper to shoot the AA gunners? The power of the BLUFOR's attack is on most maps strong as anything, with a well used Cobra, LAV's, Attack Huey, M16's, Scoped LMG's, Fast Heli deployment what more do you want?

I disagree with the suggested idea, it will deffer the idea of making AA a valued item to the MEC/PLA/INSUR/TALIB.

And Give the BLURFOR another powerful weapon

The thing is, anti-aircraft markers already exist. You cannot reliably place a 'circle' saying 'This is where the danger ends'. Because it doesn't, and that's not true. If anything it would be a menace to chopper pilots, not a help. Common sense and the current map AA marker are fine. A huge red circle (transparent or not) is misleading and is NOT something I want cluttering up my map when I'm flying. Period.

And since when do the devs cater the game to 'pub pilots'?
