[Weapon] Lead Pipe [Wip]

Here is a lead pipe I created in max 2010, its UV mapped but I need someone to texture it.... Currently working on my own.

Anyone want to skin it?

Triangles = 752

Polys = 364

This would be nice to replace the insurgent's kabar knives with, or at least have it come with only SOME kits.

The insurgents are just civilians with guns, theres really no standard weapon for them.... not everyone has a knife.

boilerrat i am pretty damn sure that an insurgent would get a knife if they had to have one (if i was them i would rather carry ammo and use the weapon buttstock rather than a knife, the marines etc do have kevlar protection remember) and getting a kitchen knife would be more feasible than getting a heavy lead pipe that would be impossible to carry around.

Mmm.

A smash to the head could break the neck or totally disorientate them.

Possibly for the collaborator? I'm sure bombed out buildings would have spare plumbing sitting around meaning a free weapon instead of buying a knife or having to steal one.

I was watching discovery health or the military channel and a marine was hit with a pipe like that.

I understand they have kevlar that is designed to take bullets, but a smash to the head or arm or even chest would break ribs and bones, remember that under the vest is a bag of meat.

They are designed to stop small fast moving projectiles, not an extremely heavy pipe swung at 50mph.
EDIT: After reading into ballistic vests on wikipedia, even if the vest stops the bullet the victim will still suffer bruising or broken bones if the projectile doesn't hit the hard plates that COULD be not always are in the vest.

i still believe that an 4-5 kg rifle (not sure what an ak weighs) would be much more effective than carrying a bloody lead pipe around in your belt.

also stating that a marine was hit with a pipe, that might as well have been from a family dad that felt like he had to protect his home etc etc

either way i simply do not believe that an insurgent would carry a lead pipe around in combat where it would slow him down. also remember that insurgents are normal people too and they might very well have lifes next to the combat. they do after all need food and they are not partisans.

Pretty much this, carrying a big heavy piece of lead around - although fun to shwack people with - is unlikely and not exactly practical. It looks like you've done a good job texturing it but I imagine 752 triangles is a bit too steep (even for TF2)

it would only work if the civilian system was somehow redone to include rioters really, the kind of guys who would arm themselves once already in the street.

some people have been saying that there should be a system where insurgents all spawn as a basic kit, then have to find weapons, perhaps a ins with molotovs, a lead pipe and a bad attitude could be that. Worth thinking about, but yeah, in the current system of PR a lead pipe probably wouldn't work

I like the sound of the scavenging system you mentioned Rudd, but I'm sure that would require a full re-tweak of the INS game mechanics, which has been done a few too many times before (although I'm not saying that's a bad thing :razz :) . I reckon the lead pipe could be an interesting weapon for the collaborator. A sort of high damage melee rock. I'd just like to see chuc's take on animations for that thing :grin: .

Still, i would love to bludgen somone to death with a Lead Pipe... maybe it should be a secret pick up kit of doom in the corner of run down old building.

Should also have the option to ram the pipe up someone ****, thatll make the Americans scream like a banshe!

But in all seriousness if i had a choice between stabing and hiting someone i would stab them, its the logical choice, although i would slit there throat not stab a bullet proof vest lol

The ballistic vests are designed to resist knife attacks also, even if you shot the soldier if it didn't hit the ceramic plate that MIGHT be there... he will suffer large bruises and possibly broken ribs.

They aren't designed to protect against something like this.

Anyways, I have been working on this and decided to share it. If anybody would like to use it just PM me.

Ballistic vests, are vests, they do not cover the neck, arm pits, face, legs and arms (fully)... The arm pits and neck are the most vulnerable to knife attacks anyway..

Well... theres always the posibillity of a random kit or two hidden in a map for teh lolz. I mean i really wanna break a face with that thing :)
