Name tags
Any idea yet on whether it will be possible to hack the code to turn off enemy name tags? That is if you don't intend to have ALL nametags turned off, but I can see some realism to the friendly nametags (optics).
The BF2 devs said they're adding a delay to the enemy tags, but that's still lame.

I say pretty much CAL settings for this mod would be nice. Change it so you cannot see enemy nametags no matter what, and freindly name tags only if looking directly at the person and less than 20 m away. that way no lame finding snipers by nametags, which are twice as big and bright as the player model it self...

I don't think even friendly tags should be shown except maybe at close range on the minimap. I hate when I am going through a smoke cloud, and I am able to tell friend from foe by the nametags. I think friendly fire should be stopped by communication only. That way, if you don't communicate you, or a teammate is dead. It would add to the teamwork aspect IMO.

To reassure all of you, we as at PR mod will be making every effort to see that tags in any way, shape, or form disappear in BF2, seeing as when one is on a real battlefield, one can't look over at person and see their name above their head
The situation we are aiming to create is the possibility, and unfortunate reality that sometimes team kills (friendly fire incidents) does happen, its annoyance to us gamers if and when it occurs; but trust me, its obviously much worse if it occurs in real life.

The only problem with removing tags 100% is that in real life you can tell who the person is just by his head shape and size. In a game you cannot because you dont get to choose your charecter models to customise yourself to the nth degree.
I think some sort of name tag should be visible on allies at about 5 meters. So atleast you know who is standing next to you. Its infuriating sometimes when you want to comunitcate directly with the person next to you but you dont know who they are. Especialy if its a pub game. You cant exactly shout out. "oy guy next to me cover my ***" if there are another 16 people on your team. meters.
It is possible to make name tags not appear through smoke though isnt it. It happens in Counterstrike source. as soon as a smoke grenade starts releasing smoke you cant see peoples name tags at all even if you can see the whole person through the smoke.
And if bf2 allows a delay i think it would work pretty well with a 3(FULL) second delay on it.

i really hope we get OFP2 with BF2 engine...
On the tags..need to be removed...an AA system with the tags is fine..
However, one of my biggest concerns..is if u have too many armies..like China, US, MEC, British etc...you won't be able to tell what is what....
In my opinion...opposition forces should look like the same thing...so that would be the compromise..between no tags at all..and tags...

do you get mixed up with the two german, russian, british, american and japanese uniforms in bf1942?
One question though what is the AA tag system like?
Its pretty easy to make out who is an ally and who is an enemy most of the time. Especialy if one enemy cannot drive the others vehicles ... and hell thats realistic anyway.
The only reason i was saying its a good idea to have tags on your allies is because in real life when you are put on a field you dont meet your squad the same time you meet your enemy. You review the battlefield sort out a strat and then go at it. So consequently if all tags are gon you are clueless as to who you are stationed with which is unrealistic.
As i said in another post some times the only way to get realism is by using unrealistic means.

AA doesn't use the over-head name tag system like BF1942 does. What happens is, you palce your reticle over a friendly soldier, and then their name will appear at the bottom of your screen like so:CHIKEN wrote:One question though what is the AA tag system like?
Target: NAME
The problem with this system is, the name will appear on your screen even when you aim at targets that are at great distances from where you may be standing. Which, a lot of the time, can be really unrealistic.
Anyway, a lot of people will be using the VOIP function that BF2 provides, so it shouldn't be that confusing to tell who you're playing with.
