localized. I cant understand a thing the non-english factions are saying, not even the common ones like medic.

Why anyone would hamstring themselves by switching to 'English Only' is totaly beyond my comprehension. In a video game you only have two senses, removing the ability to tell freind from foe by sound leaves you only with sight.... but I have sucky FPS/RR so I rely heavily on sound when fighting. Was fighting in some woods the other day, checking 180o, completley missed some guy hiding by a tree, until he let his mouth go, he got half way through saying "Enemy Contact!" before I put 12 rounds of 7.62 into his belly. Had I been in 'English Only' I would have to verify the target first, make sure he wasnt one of my squad, precious mili-seconds wasted!

Been using english only because early on I didn't want to learn the gibberish. I'll go with the "immersion" this week and compare. Of course I hardly ever hear the enemy yapping anyway. Use VOIP sheesh!

I did for a while have english only, but then realised that as you said, you can't tell if theres an enemy in the building or a friendly if you hear them ^^. Also very good for listening to them shout medic, get ready to shoot their only way out xD.

So yeah Localised sound for me

Localized for immersion.

well, it helps to hear the enemy scream for a medic. then know when you finally killed him.

I used to always use English but then I switched to localized but then I switched BACK to English for a while again but then I switched to localized again but then I switched BACK to English for a while again but then I switched to localized again and now it's still localized.

Yeah I can't make up my mind.

I thought about this the other day since I do miss the "immersion factor" after switching over to English only. It got me thinking about an optional English only sound pack where each faction would speak in english but with a localized accent. This would retain the immersion factor but really help out the beginner players like me.

how about anglophones would play only for english speaking factions? ;) to my taste this idea is as 'good' as having all factions speak english.

My advice to the new players would be to switch to localised as soon as possible, its a habbit that you need to break and the sooner you do, the better off you will be. Even though I have been playing PR for a good few years now, I still dont know most of the foreign languages comm's, but you pick a few up eventualy. Even so, understanding them isnt realy that big a deal. A good point to remember is that some players don't use Comm-Rose commands for communication, they use them for miss-direction, often to good effect. For example, shouting "Grenade" then charging in with their rifles and shooting you in the back as you scurry away from an imagined explosive device, there are many variations on this.

You should be more reliant on VOIP, yes it has its faults, there is a slight delay on it. But even when it is not available, a squad leader can communicate more effectivley with markers than with comm rose commands, markers indicate intent, such as observe, attack, deffend, move. Important support Comm-Rose commands, like 'Medic!' and 'Ammo!' still display an icon over the requestors head, as they do with your own, so if your not understanding your comrade, look above his head to know what he wants from you. Keep in mind what your squad members roles are, even if they are not using VOIP, sometimes it obvious what they need, if you hear your LAT fire, then he comes running over to you, he probably wants ammo. If your a medic and a squad member moves into a possition in contact with you, but covering your line of fire, he probably wants a heal. Shouldering rifles, hitting the dirt, suddenly changing direction, are all tell's. As crude as it is, body language and intent of your squad members who arent using VOIP is what you should be watching.

localized, i like some some other have said, learn simple words. like mat552 said, i learned that kumbala means grenade from whatever languate the mec used.

i learn a few words and then, if i hear it ingame, i know if there calling for a medic, throwing a nade, or evan saying "Fall back!"

also, i neaver felt like changing it to english only, im to lazy, id much rather get into the game and have all the diffrent languages then having everyone english.
