Bombing

Post by Cassius »

Paveway bombs or other bombs lock on their target on their own, after they are released. Do you see lazes when using paveway bombs, or do they not appear on the hud, like they do with air to ground missiles ?

They still will appear on the hud but if your flying right you should not see them ;)

Just LOBAL. You have to wait for the pilot to say "I'm locked on Him!"

its not necessary to wait for the pilot to confirm the lock, because the bombe will lock on after launch if they are dropped close enough to the target.

Yeah, they are LOAL. You can drop them from some distance/altitude away, a couple of thousand metres, and still get good results.

You can probably drop them anywhere and they will automatically go towards the lock even if you don't intend it to go there. I seen plenty of bombs go straight horizontally towards a laze.

I've seen F-16s trying to dive bomb my squad (A Grids, Kashan) and veering off toward the bunkers because somebody lased it. Scared the **** out of us.

A good tactic in the F-16 is to dive bomb an attack marker that's on a lase, from about 3000Ft, then release at 2000Ft and pull up to stay hidden from ground units, the bomb will carry on, locked onto the lase and hit the target, no need to be seen once ;)

When i bomb, i line up the ticket thing to the middle see my laze at about 700 alt if its Kashan drop it pull up and away from any possible AA. Always a definite hit if done correctly and make sure to drop flares along the way.

I'd like to see a flyable B52, with one pilot position, one gunner that would man the bombsights.

Drop 15 2k lbs Paveways!

Then spend the better part of half an hour loading it back up!

This is my tactic, even without a lase if the marker is dead on the bomb drop is fairly accurate. In preperation for our clan match with CATA last year we also tested out level bombing, flying around 1500 feet we found flying at a speed of 1k and at a distance of 1k from the marker, dropping the bomb it travels forward enough to find the lase and hit the target. However it wasnt always reliable so I always stuck to my dive bombings instead.
