PR in 16:9?

Post by Bringerof_D »

i recently got a new monitor for christmas, an LG 20" Flatron 16:9 aspect ratio. at first i couldn't load PR but realized it was because bf2 cant run while using dual screen settings. bypassing that problem now i realise that using only one monitor i still cant play it on my new monitor and that it only runs on my older 4:3 monitor. is this possible an issue with my settings or does BF2 just not run with 16:9?

No. Because your new monitor is probably the "secondary" monitor. You need to set the new monitor as the primary one. Which means your start bar will be on the larger monitor.

Try modifying your shortcuts 'target' window to force the resolution you want to run PR in. I run a 22" widescreen. Here's what mine looks like.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" start +widescreen 1 +szx 1600 +szy 1200 +restart

change 1600x1200 to what ever your card can support.

Good luck
P.S. use WidescreenFixer for the best look.

What you need to do is right click on your desktop shortcut and click properties.

Then under target type

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" start +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1600 +szy 1200

or what ever size your monitor can be set to

cheers

Target or Target Type?

cant edit the Target Type and in Target i end up with the error message:

the name "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" specified in the target box is not valid. make sure the path and file name are correct

You dont need to do any of that, as BF2 is now supporting widescreen.

When you go into your display options, does your large monitor have a 1 or 2 in it?

I too am having the same problem. I have tried deleting the BF2 profiles in your Documents folder, also tried some of the additions to the target path to no luck. I could run BF2 1.5 before I installed PR but now I cant run PR or the BF2 exe on its own. The screen flashes a few times black then BF2.exe stops working. I have also tried deleting the movies in PR but this also does not work.

I have had this problem every time on a new install with this monitor, after a while fidlleing it starts working but to be honest I have never really got to the bottom of it. I am runnin 1920-1080 on my 24in samsung Syncmaster

Did you install the drivers of your graphic card?

Thanks for the replies guys but yes I have installed the latest drivers. Its funny, every time some one posts a problem on any forum anywhere relating to any game, some one all ways says " update your gfx drivers" as if that will magically fix everything.

This is in no way being ungrateful for advice given , just made me giggle.

Is anyone else running BF2 1.5 and the latest PR on a 16:9 with no problems ? if so how?

I asked it because there are lots of drivers integrated in Windows7, perhaps for your grapic card too. My suggestion (if you use windows default drivers) to remove them and to install those of ATI/Nvidia.

Ah I see, well I have installed the latest drivers for my ATI 4870 512. The crash point seems pritty random, after deleting the profiles in the documents Battlefeild 2 folder, I can get plain BF2 to run and then change my gfx settings to 1920X1080, after this I tried to load a sp game, I got ingame then crashed instantly. I tried to launch BF2 again and now it crashes strait away, or sometime through the movies seemingly randomly.

There seems to be little rhyme or reason to this problem and I would have thought it would have been patched by 1.5 to work on modern systems.

I need to know if there is any error message or code given, when your game crashes to the desktop.

Also try to right-click on your desktop and select the contextmenu-entry for the 'desktopresolution'. Then you shoul press the 'identify' button.
Windows7 should show two screens, 1 (on the left side) and two (on the right side). Check this.
Select your grapic card, the resolution and use the Advanced Settings. Check everything and if you are sure that all settings are correct, press OK in the Advanced Settings window and ok in the desktop resolution window.

i think its a refresh rate problem - setting to 800x600@60Hz should do (you can then later on change the resolution in the video options)
Spinkyone wrote:If it blatantly refuses to start or you get a black screen that then CTD's instantly then it's probably a refresh rate issue / resolution issue. Your best bet is to check your Video.con file in your BF2 settings in MyDocuments and change the line "VideoSettings.setResolution 1920x1200@60Hz" etc to a mode you know it supports. ...

You can change the resolution also in your pr.exe shortcut with params +sxz 800 +syz 600 (sxz: width syz: height).

its not about the resolution its about the refresh rate

and btw i heard of ppl using dual monitor configuration with bf2 successfully (admins got BF2 on one and BF2CC, TS, Mumble on the other monitor for example)
