Models and statics

Post by Zeno »

I want to suggest something thats no gameplay related :p

i feel like PR lacks good statics... me as a mapper find this kinda stressfull when making a street and have to use up to 50-60% vanilla BF2 statics. if i shouldnt use bf2 statics there would be 3-4 simmilar buildings in the same street and i dont find that very realistic...

also i find that vbf2 statics have a lot more detail in them and i wish the devs would care more about details in the statics.

i dont think it would be impossible to do better statics for the refractor engine.. just look at Forgotten Hope 2 that have the most beautifull statics for BF2:

hell they even made a whole set of snowcammo before they released any maps with snow:

im just tired of seeing the same buildings on every map :|

i know you devs are very busy and all that, but would it be to much to ask for to get some good looking statics in PR too?

I agree her Zeno.... there is nothing on the inside of a majority of the building... at least not what I can find. I take my hats off to the Dev's though considering that they are really busy right now. But as a spare time project.... perhaps? Just a suggestion guys

Some of those statics would definately be nice in PR, but I would assume that FH2 would want to keep its own look as much as possible, they've done great work and deserve to revel in it.

does FH2 have new sounds etc for snow?

im not saying we should use them.. :?

ATM i think the gameplay need changing mroe than the surroundings
priority should be liek this:
1.gameplay
2.features (such as new guns, map and factions)
3.looks and graphics of the game

og course any modeler is free to make bulding models its just very time consuming and hard work

As nice as it would be, I think we also need to keep in mind that PR tends to have much larger maps with much larger view distances. With longer view distances, we tend to need to streamline some statics and have slightly less detail.

To be honest, as a mapper, Ive only found myself wanting MORE kinds of statics, but everything I have asked for in terms of static objects in the forums, I have received. Ive never been disappointed at the quality of the statics.

Ive seen some nice new statics in the works, and I think a good deal will make it in .9. If not, they should be in the releases after :) I think a lot of it comes from the continuing evolution of PRs gameplay. Statics that were amazing for Al Basrah are now out of date and tend not to get used, but there are replacements for them for newer maps, etc. It just keeps getting better imo :)

I know there are awesome statics that will come out with 0.9 that I want to put on my map, so I feel your pain zeno. Patience will help, or DEV status.

In my neighborhood and the surroundings neighborhoods, all the houses are either model 'A' or model 'B'. The business park buildings around where I live to all tend to be the same, granted they are all in the same business park.

So in fact, repetitiveness is actually sometimes a good thing to have. Just wanted to point that out because maybe they don't have that where you live.

We need more enterable large buildings. Like the Russian apartments.

As far as a priority, just think of how much gameplay would change if every building had an interior. Not saying that's a realistic goal, but you can't deny the fact that a wider variety of static objects would add to the gameplay.

I'm still looking for someone to make me a small power pole that you see on smaller buildings. And some other small detail objects for a map I'm working on. (If any modelers are bored and looking for something to do)

Too bad there are very few suburban American maps. Or enough statics to create one.

Model them, skin them, and export them, then you can have your statics.

The DEV team is working on statics but if you want something in PR try doing it yourself.

As crazy said, statics aren't the highest priority for the devs, there's a lot of other things to work on. The difficulty with getting community made statics is they can vary a lot in quality or style, I almost think it would help people who are trying to get into making objects or statics for PR if there was a list of statics that PR is lacking and some photo references to get a feel for what is needed. Maybe some mappers could input what kind of buildings they desired for their maps?

I like the detail that goes into fh2.2, especially the sandbags - they look very detailed for an incredibly simple shape.
