Community?
Old Infiltration/current Insurgency player here. I've only just recently heard about PR, and I was wondering how active the community is before buying a copy of Battlefield 2 specifically to play this mod.
It looks like it's been out for some time, and I'm not sure why I'm just now hearing about it, but is it still played? Large playerbase or is it pretty niche? I remember Infiltration being extremely niche and playing with the same few dozen people every day got pretty dull.
So what's the landscape looking like now?

Re: Community?
This is the most played BF2 modification, with more players than both ArmA games combined. The community is extremely active, with more than 1000 people checking the forums at least once a day and with nearly 40,000 registered forum members.
As gazz states, there are currently more than 1000 people playing PR.

Re: Community?
Well to start look at the forums, lots of people on everyday, same goes for the MOD
You can almost always find a full (64 player) server, but there are usually around 4 or 5 that are full and others ranging in the 40s and 50s, so yes the community is very active, it is a little lower than usual because this patch is getting a little old, but the next big patch that should be coming out soon should boost player rates alot! i remember when this patch first came out there were maybe 9 or 10 full servers that whole week

Alot of people playing it as far as I know. And the community has only developed to new stages over the years. So I say,, get urself a copy of bf2, download the 1.50 patch, pr 0.85 levels and core, 0.86 and .87 patch, read the manual and have fun!

Exactly what I was hoping to hear. And the fact that I got three responses to this thread in under five minutes tells me it's the truth.
Off to look for a cheap copy of Battlefield 2 then. Hope it lives up to my memories of Infiltration...

Steam is pretty cheap, although there are some difficulties in getting BF2 mods to play nicely with Steam. It is possible though
The electronic copy available from the EA online store works fine, and last time I looked it wasn't priced ridiculously IIRC.
Either way, welcome to the game - even if you are a little late

The only digital downloads I'm seeing are for some Complete Edition, which I don't think I need. Just base BF2, right? I can get that for 8 bucks, but only a physical copy shipped. The Complete Edition is $30, which I don't feel like paying for an old game.

Re: Community?
It is a very fun game and I guarantee you'll have a great time.
Just be careful on one of the training servers. Many...lets just say people who grief have a disease (I made up especially on that occasion) called 'LOL MUST SHOT ALL FLY THING', it's a disease where these...griefers (or carriers) must shoot anything that flies. We try to eliminate this threat but they keep spawning back, and it's not very helpful when trying to do speed tests on one place to another.
But overall it's great.

It's kinda hard to find the plain BF2 copy for digital download, but have you tried Steam?Headcase_Fargone wrote:The only digital downloads I'm seeing are for some Complete Edition, which I don't think I need. Re: Community?
Yeah, Steam only has the $30 Complete Edition. I guess that has all the expansions and whatnot. The original BF2 stand-alone will work though, yes? Looks like I'll just have to order it.

Yes thats all you need to play this mod, and the patches, the other ones they sell come with expansion, which are not needed

I would personally recommend you get a feel for regular, vanilla BF2 before jumping in PR. Im not suggesting you get uber pro at vanilla, but its a much more forgiving environment to learn the controls and what not
(also PR will look better when you go from vanilla to PR instead of Source to PR

Heh, you're not joking. I just played the demo and the graphics are definitely dated. Much better than Infiltration on the Unreal engine though, so I'm fine. I'll sacrifice high poly counts for 64 player servers any day.Teek wrote:I would personally recommend you get a feel for regular, vanilla BF2 before jumping in PR.
