Remove green squad-direction arrows
Didn't find anything on a search or ***.
Remove the green arrows that point in the direction of your squad if you're not looking at them. This is one of the most annoying things in PR and should definitely be removed -- if I want to know where my squad is I'll turn around.

Yea, that sounds like a good idea. I think it might even be kind of unrealistic

Re: Remove green squad-direction arrows
Im pretty sure it has been talked of plenty even if its not in the AAS thread.
Its to compensate for not having real world situational awareness. in real life you can aim a gun one direction, walk one way, and look another and have your eyes looking off enter from your heads direction. In game, its all straight forward in one direction and with a limited field of view.
Its just one of those gamplay features that most agree needs to stay to keep the visual and spatial senses in game more on par with reality.

Re: Remove green squad-direction arrows
For me I guess I wouldn't mind that much NOT having them, but I see myself using them as a SL, to make sure my squad members are following without looking back. I would say it's a simulation of peripheral vision to some extent.

i like it, easier to know if someone is still behind me. in real life you can glance over your shoulder, in the game you have to turn all the way around.

Re: Remove green squad-direction arrows
I thought one of the major things PR did was remove as much of the unrealistic HUD as possible. This is another one of those unrealistic things that really is not needed for gameplay itself and just generally gets in the way IMHO. The only thing with the HUD that truly needs to stay is mag count and move markers; that's it.
Situational awareness should be actual, not given to you on a silver platter. You should listen, look around, etc. to retain situational awareness, not have it handed to you on the HUD. This isn't 2142's computerized battle-net system, it's modern combat.
If it's possible to remove this, that would be great.

Interesting what bothers different people, I personally never found it distracting/disturbing.Startrekern wrote:This is one of the most annoying things in PR and should definitely be removed
I do have my own priority of 'annoying things' though, I just won't list them in your thread.
The case seems to be that the Devs consider it realistic in the sense that it compensates for your situational awareness IRL (peripheral vision and sound). As do other HUD elements like markers, name tags and mag counts.Startrekern wrote:I thought one of the major things PR did was remove as much of the unrealistic HUD as possible. I don't understand how a tiny green arrow every now and then on the side of your screen gets in the way.

Can't you just toggle it on/off with the left Alt key?

Re: Remove green squad-direction arrows
Listening to stereo sounds perhaps through a pair of headphones, looking around through a field of view that is greatly limited over real vision and on viewing this on perhaps a small [smaller than one would like] monitor is not as beneficial to the senses as it is in real life.Startrekern wrote: Situational awareness should be actual, not given to you on a silver platter. The argument for extreme realism is there, I agree. But when you get rid of one thing in the name of realism, you lose another aspect of realism that was allowed by the feature. Such is computer gaming, unfortunately.

Re: Remove green squad-direction arrows
I actualy use that for situational awarness for members RIght neer you its usefull the arrows go away after like ... 30 meters soo whats the big problem .. instead of trying to find a squad member behind somthing if you are a medic for example you can easly find the wounded and get ur squad going

Re: Remove green squad-direction arrows
I wonder why people obsess with such nonsense. I don't even notice the green arrows, and rarely use them. But when I do need them, they're useful. You don't have all the instincts in BF2 that a real human has on the battlefield.

Re: Remove green squad-direction arrows
There is a good point in the suggestion. I don't see what's the need for having arrows pointing where they are. The only thing I wanna know who is in my squad and who is who cause that's something IRL you'd of course know. Therefore the names would do the job just as well. Actually it would make for really nice situations as now in close combat situations targets don't have to be checked at all.

Re: Remove green squad-direction arrows
I would like to see the arrows removed as I believe they are a minor immersion killer. Situational awareness in PR is something that few people have and the game would be better for it in my view if people were forced to have to actually look around them for their squad mates.

Re: Remove green squad-direction arrows
I honestly have been playing this game for a while...i really havent noticed the green arrows behind me. i have infront however. so whatsthe big deal,in combat you would know whos on your six at all times without turning around. plus in a firefight who has time to really look at tiny green arrows..i think they are fine the way they are. good work PR

Re: Remove green squad-direction arrows
The Green arrows should stay those who wanna play hardcore can press alt. The reason is That you will always hear the guy beside you because of different noises the person makes and you Are in general aware of people around you without looking at them the only way to assure such thing is by the arrows.
If this thing is removed it will just lead to unrealistic behaviour that you always have to look after the guy behind you, poking you with his bayonet in your neck.

I'm also disagree that it should be removed. Not because I'm using it so very much but if you do that with same logic you also have to remove all other markers on the map (way point/target/observe etc.)

Re: Remove green squad-direction arrows
remember guys that the bf2 engine doesn't allow Track IR for your head. that means that everytime you turn you turn your body too giving away your position. this allows you to have a clue where your guys are even though you can't turn only your head.
one of the things that would make PR great would be track IR. sadly it is just not possible without breaking all kinds of code made by dice.
it is possible to get track IR, but it's not legal and it's very very very hard to setup.
