Have you tried creating a new 'Offline' account?
Also you can change your video settings outside of the game if you have a Battlefield 2 folder in My Documents. Just go to your profile and open the Video.con file with notepad. Look for the line that has the resolution setting and change it to your preference.

You can edit your video settings manualy.
Path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\Video
Open with 'notepad' app. and set res to what you want( same as your desktop)
Here is what mine looks like for my 22" wide-screen LCD:
VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 3
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 2
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 2
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 2
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 3
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 3
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 3
VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@60Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing Off
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3
Hope it helps
