Bring back Helicopters to Al basrah

Post by stealth420 »

Since .86 came out and the helicopters were nerfed to the brink of extinction and the Lynx was removed from Al basrah (for sound bug reasons).

What if the moderators brought back 2 helicopters to al basrah and to componsate they could remove the mini apc (schmitar).

+1 Lynx
+1 Apache

- 1 mini Apc Schmitar.

No one has had a chance to use Helis on this map since .85.

The Lynx would be very useful on this map , due to the 2 islands that can be unreachable by land vehicles if all bridges are blown. Which usually happens once the cache is located on the map by Blufor forces.

I made this suggestion because the helicopters were drastically changed in .86 and they should at least try out the new versions of these helicopters on these maps before removing them completly.

Dunno about the apache, but a lynx should be added. But then again if it gets shot down we are screwed, maybe instead of apache and a lynx - two lynxs?

In whatever way I would like to see some air transport on basrah again.

Reason the helicopters were removed was due to soundbug issues oweing to the low view distance. Until this is changed there won't be any helis on Al Basrah, simple.

Additionally in order to have an Apache you would remove the CR2 not the Scimitar as against insurgents an Apache is a very very tough proposition indeed and not comparable on a threat level to a Scimitar. I would not be averse to seeing the Lynx back on the map but this would need to be carefully balanced and the soundbug issues fixed.

The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "

i never really understood why they took out the lynx in the fist place. I think it should be added again. It adds more teamwork and you can plan better attacks. i.e. water drops.

Merlin please, the Lynx for all the hype has turned out to be less useful than the Transport Littlebird.

I do agree on this one, we do need a transport heli on al basrah, not an attack one though.

and yet the sound bug still plagues Karbala. Id vote for reintroducing the Lynx. Only map its on now is Quinling which is seriously underplayed. Sound bug isnt that bothersome really.

sound bug isn't even a big deal... I would rather have a heli to shoot down on al basrah even at the cost of SOMETIMES hearing a helicopter that doesn't move... which usually is figured out to be the sound bug within a few seconds.

I think the map is too small for helis because the action is concentrated in one relativity small area, so they don't really add anything tactically.

You A) Spelt Scimitar wrong and B) Don't know how fun it is to use the Scimitar as the Recon vehicle it is - it's way more fun than flying a heli and finally C) DO realise that the Sicmitar is not a Mini APC, or an IFV, it's a CVR(T) [Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked)] and should be run as such.

Also NO to the Apache - there's a couple in PRSP and they dominate the map. Lynx would be good though.

@ Jigsaw... yeah because the sound bug doesn't effect pretty much every map with Helis on apart from Kashan & Qinling....

Absolutely not.

The Insurgents already have enough problems as it is on Basrah. The map is generally outdated and doesn't fit the playstyle of the current incarnation of PR. The fact that the Mosque leads directly onto a large, open space usually patrolled by British is laughable.

Back in 0.6-ish when the Insurgents had access to T-62s they actually stood a chance - but now the fact that the Challenger, Warriors and Scimitar can simply sit out in the desert - thereby restricting all Insurgent activities into the city area makes it even hard than it already is for the faction itself.

People can say 'oh blah blah, unlimited tickets and G3's as spawn kits' but it still doesn't remove the fact that they cannot heal unless they have someone who is more stupid than brave to play the collaborator class.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: No.

Welcome to 2010, how many T-62's do the Iraqi insurgents currently control? If they get one at all it needs to be an old, beat up Iraqi army tank that spent the better part of the last decade in storage.

Also there are 4 or 5 exits from the main mosque, if you have armor to the north and need to cross west then you have to go south to do so.

I vote for a transport but the apache would give the Brits the ability to use heavy weapons on caches inside the city without having to risk armor getting close (not to mention that armor is close to useless in the city).

DEVs have said on numerous occasions that .9 and follow up releases will have a fair few 4km maps. lets wait till then and assume(hope) they will include air of sorts and leave the small 2km/1km maps to light assets.

They need a map that has four cobras versus insurgents.

Operation Snow Storm has the Lynx, Merlin and Apache so there are some maps with it, even if it was a limited edition style map.

I love Al Basrah as a map, but it needs a big update in order to be able to keep up with some of the older maps. Honestly I think Kashan does too but that is another topic.

Spot on. The 16p version of Basrah is excellent, quite a formidable fight with the techys up against Land Rovers.

Not once did I say that the T-62's should be added back to Basrah; your post is flawed and incorrect.

As for the exits, you're right, believe it or not I never thought of that, but the fact still stands that the exits out of the city point back to the south and north, perfect spots for the armor to get you. Examples: construction site, southern entrance to oil refinery, housing district south of Mosque and west of Hotel.

Take it easy man, there is no reason to be a complete jerk about something you disagree with.
