PR Map Idea: Ex-Soviet Bunker/tunnel system?

Post by Shaihuluid »

So, there have been quite a few Russia v. Chechnia maps in wide-open woodland terrain maps, but what about the possiblility of some claustraphobic/urban maps inside of an abandoned Soviet tunnel system?

http://www.nortfort.ru/coastal/foto_pml14_e.html

Personally, I'm just itching for some CQB-style combat, and I think that this could easily be worked into PR without it turning into an all-out grunt rush.

An Insurgency Scenario featuring Chechnian Guerrillas defending their underground caches from the aboveground Russian millitary Is what I'm thinking

(Admittedly these last two are from the film "Stalker", but tarkovsky appeared to be fillming in a burnt-out soviet bunker regardless)

Comments?

general idea for map suggestions are "do it yourself", simply not possible to make to people requests as they take to long.

You want it in PR then do it yourself, the DEV team is really busy doing other things.

Come on guys, give him a break :P
Good idea in my opinion
I'm pretty sure sometime in the new future, a DEV will look this up and create this map

but of course, you can do it yourself as well if you'd like :D I would be interested

Iron Ridge also features a large underground sewer system that will also add to some very nice underground fighting.

Is this what you're talking about? (maybe not the Russian part but the underground)

Obviously the underground areas cannot be seen from the minimaps.

The point of showing you the minimaps is because you also suggested urban/CQB areas and caches as well.

Like others have said, map ideas are DIY. Also, a map with many underground structures requires a lot of statics. So you would have to either know a modeler with a lot of time on their hands, or do it yourself as well.

honestly i have considered it numerous times but havent gotten around to it yet..

a very doable propostions.. I was considering a COMPLETELY indoor map...with a large sewer system and a series of bunker compounds...large indoor spaces..essentially just building the map on the open terrain..but completely enclosed..

I may do it someday...maybe my last PR map or something..

or how about Tora Bora type caverns? that would be major spammy mind you...but maybe just for a fun experiement.

Me don't like inside combat with the BF2 engine :(

Honestly I don't think the BF2 engine is fluid enough to make an indoor map work. It just seems.... "laggy"?

Edit: But don't keep me from making it. Would love to try it out :-D

Yeah, Tora bora is something I've advocated several times now... nothing so far. One thing I want to get clear, however, is that PR really benefits from not turning into a "dungeon crawler", a good immersion a la kashan skirmerish /w underground is what I personally was thinking of. Straight tunnel warfare has the potential to kill PR, or conversally enrich it. all depends on how it's done

well...would never kill PR....thats a bit of an exagerration...but might potentially kill the popularity of the map..

but thats the whole point of mapping...taking a chance..

Just saying, but the tunnel system in the map is quite small and just a small feature of the map, the OP is askin about the tunnels as a proper feature... I've played on the map if you're wondering.
