Port Forwarding

Post by themartini »

Hey people.

I'm trying to work out how to forward ports on my router, and its making my brain hurt.
It's not particularly PR related, but i want to be able to download 0.9 with much speed and efficiency.

I have a Netgear WNR2000 if that helps... I pretty basically have no clue on what to do here, and I tried PortForward.com - Port Forwarding Guides Listed by Manufacturer and Model , but I got lost at the point where it told me to set up a static IP address.

Thanks anyway!

Port forwarding won't increase your speed.

Did you check the setting up static IP guide?

Are you trying to open a port for the v0.9 Torrent?

Sorry, I didn't realize it was torrents you wanted to use. These certainly do go faster with properly forwarded ports (without open port you can't seed properly and you are given less priority for download thanks to that).

Where exactly did you get lost and what OS do you use?

okay im running XP (pree sure its SP3)
I got lost at step 10 of how to set up a static IP
Im pretty sure i got the static IP set up, and my screen looks alot like the image shown immediately above step 10.
Once i did that, i went back to the how to map a port for the WNR2000 guide - at the step where it says enter the static IP you want to forward to.
What threw me was that it reads 10.0.0.x
So i have no clue whether a) ive set up the static IP wrong, cause none of the numbers in that page begin with 10.0.0
or b) im just not entering the IP correctly...

OK, go ahead and follow this guide.

Instead of 10.0.0.x fill in 192.168.1.69
