Donations to Project Reality

Post by DaKillerFox »

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate thing to suggest, so if this is inappropriate, please close and delete this thread, but have mercy on me and do not ban me.

However, I just want to know how many of you feel like donating to PR. I've noticed that they are just $50 away from their goal this month, at the time of this posting. I've already donated to PR this month and I might even consider donating again before the month is over. But what if we got just 10 more guys to donate $5 each to help them reach their goal? I'm not on the dev team or even know who the devs are, but I am so excited for the new release and I know that many of you guys are excited as well. Now there have been 800 people who've visited the forums today and I know that I don't know any of you and whether or not you've ever donated to Project Reality, but this mod is 100x better than VBF2 and how much did you guys pay for that game? If we just paid for the value of PR itself, I'm sure many of us would be forking over hundreds of dollars.

Anyways, this post isn't to make any of you feel like you have to donate, I just thought I'd suggest it as a way to "thank" the Devs for all their hard work. At least they're not like other companies that charge you money for a release and call it an expansion pack!

That's the main reason why I feel inclined to donate, the fact that they've put all this work into it and I'm using it, i feel 'dirty' not paying something for it =P.

Meh, these are hard economic times we're in and everyone has their own views on this subject.

Well, that's my point, people can donate or not. But like you I feel kinda dirty not donating, especially when I play so much. This is how I rationalize it, I spend $10 for a movie ticket and I get 2 & 1/2 hours MAX of entertainment out of it. Now I've been playing PR for atleast 2 hours a day for the last 3 months, that's gotta amount to over 100+ hours of entertainment. If I donate just $10, that's less than .10 cents an hour of entertainment  .

You can donate through Paypal. You can use either your credit card with Paypal or transfer money from a bank. I don't like charging things on my credit card either, so I just transferred money from my checking account with Paypal. If you don't have a Paypal account, you're gonna have to sign up for one.

Don't want to look like an *******, but for what is that money going?

But this mod is certainly worth every cent someone wishes to donate.

Money goes for development of the PR, as far as I know, all developers volunteer their time.

Also for the this wonderful website we check for updates and test servers I'm thinking...

Server rentals? Test servers, Mumble etc, this website, if BSS/DEVs need any kit aswell I imagine. I Haven't donated yet but I do help out with a community. I plan to donate when 0.9 appears!

A meal at MacD's or a coffee and cake is fun for 15 minutes for $5/$5, not much for a months PR in comparison

Correct. None of the devs are paid, the money goes towards things like web and game server costs.

Probably for the costs of running the site/ forum.

Most don't know, but vbulletin is like $500 bucks or something.

For those who can't afford to give money, you can always donate your time in the form of making a map, a model, sounds, running a server, video, artwork, music, moderation, writing strategy, etc, etc.

I didn't even know there was a place to donate to PR. I was planning to get a pre-paid credit card for online shopping, and i guess i know what to use it on first.

sell your computer and send them the money you get.

Sanctimony is only acceptable when you're actually practicing what you preach; especially since I see you are a supporting member, what's wrong? The world was perfect and didn't need charity, then Haiti happened?

I donated to PR a long time ago as I felt I had received a high quality almost full game with unique ideas and principals which deserved to be supported with as much money as I gave to EA for vbf2.

and yes, I do give to charity with money and time (volunteering), PR is one of the luxuries I decided to spend money and time on.
