Invalid CD Key (Searched)

Post by BangShishigami »

I bought the BF2 Collection on STEAM, but when I try to join a server in PR (used the autohotkey fix) it keeps giving me "Your CD-Key is not valid." I can join games in Vanilla BF2 no problem.

Make a text file with the following content in it:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2]
"Language"="English"
"Locale"="en_US"
"InstallDir"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\EA GAMES\\Battlefield 2"
"Version"="1.5"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc]
@=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\wdc]
@="true"
But, replace this

Code: Select all

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc]
@=""
With your BF2 hash. You can use this programto get the hash from your cd key. After putting in the hash, it should look something like this:

Code: Select all

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc]
@="sebjio4gjg4rguj90w3f90we4ug90qwujgssdrguyw0e89guw90guw490guw90guw390gwg90weufg90weugwe90guwe90guweg90weug90weguwe90guweg90weug90wgu"
Now, rename the text file to <filename>.reg, and double click the file. The registry entries will be added.

Now try joining a server again. Just a random guess, but it might work for you :)

Thanks for the reply, but would that still work? I mean my game isn't installed in a EA folder but in the steamapps/common folder.

It won't break anything. :wink: If it makes the problem even worse, just delete the key :P What I think is happening is PR is reading the key from that location, instead of from the steam location. It's worth a try isn't it?

If you want to delete the key, just start regedit and go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games

and delete the Battlefield 2 key.

Did you "If your CD-Key is not automatically read, right click the textbox and select "Enter CD-Key manually"."? :P

I can't because I don't know my CD Key since steam doesn't give you one.

I thought if you right-clicked the game in Steam, there was an option "View game CD key"...anyway, I don't think that program gives you the right hash in the first place.

Try this:

http://forums.filefront.com/bf2-problem ... ost3572503

if you can't find your cd key, contact Steam. It seems ridiculous to not be able to know what your cd key is.

Btw, you can also check in regedit at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve
and see if it's anywhere in there.

However, there must be a better solution to your problem. Do you have Windows and Steam installed to the C: drive on your computer? Is there anything unusual about your computer setup?

I may have found my key in the registry, they sure do like making things hard to find :| .

EDIT: Nope, entered the key like they said in that post and it still gives me that error.
