This is the main reason why lone wolfing does not work. With 6 people, you spot out targets efficiently, and take them out faster... unless it's a SAW gunner.[R-DEV]motherdear wrote: 4) I got more than my own set of eyes

Joker is saying that you cant win if the enemy kills you and you dont kill him. Just because YOU YOURSELF does not kill the enemy doesnt mean someone else is not doing it.
When youre medic you help your TEAM killing. But sometimes YOU have to be the one killing. And thats something a competent lonewolf can be very good indeed.
Thats why I do it from time to time aswell![]()
Yes and I was disagreeing, on Insurgency especially it's not the team with the higher KDR, and on AAS it's usually the team that controls the best ground and takes out even assets.
Infantry maps are usually settled with one side capping out the other.

Re: Lone wolf?
Please never do this, i call em "black hole squads" where you click on the squad and the squad is every part of the map with sniper kits, HAT kits , marksman. if you wanna be on your own, do it on your own dont effect other players and leave a open squad.BossOlen wrote:Although they are hated, sometimes lonewolfs are useful. For example on Muttrah city USMC rarely get past the docks - this could be easily fixed if 1 lonewolf would go behind enemy lines with boat(which is never used) and take out MEC fb-s, every single one of them. It's pretty hard to be sneaky with a full 6-man squad. FB is not hard to take down alone, and taking it down benefits your team alot.

Why can't this be achieved in a squad with a guy or two doing some reconnaissance?Alex6714 wrote:Intel is the key to everything, whether it be helicopter hovering in distance, apc driving around or squad attacking, 1 guy telling them whats going on is 500% better than 12 guys just ignoring them.

Re: Lone wolf?
I think you guys all fail to mention one thing. While many of you are L33T players with Sniper, Marksman, HAT kit, etc. etc. Not everyone is so awesome, especially new players. Now you might be getting a nice high KDR or whatever, but you're not helping your team really. If all you do is offer intel and the squads can make use of it, that's great. But what about new players and squads that need some improvement? You're not helping out your team because you're not helping out new players or supporting them in the way that they could use your help. Sure, as a medic, you can revive a guy or two, or offer some support fire, but imagine how much better the teams would be, if you were there to help a guy learn how to be a medic? Instead of healing the medics from other squads that go down, maybe he's new, or maybe he doesn't know how to identify good cover. If you showed him these things or gave him tips, he'd be a better medic, AR, or whatever and that would benefit the team most. What you all talk about are shot term gains, yeah they help win the map and the round, but what about the next map, the next round, tomorrow? I think a competent squad mate and even more a competent squad leader do more good than a really elite sniper or lone wolf.

Re: Lone wolf?
good to see that people take this topic seriously. good to see people that say no and people who say yes 2 loners.
Today alone again, 9-1kdr and cus of my intel reports 4+ enemy squads killed. My intel also saved a few friendly lives. Another win for loners.
And its true that with a squad ur chances of succes are better, but the only people that i know are good enough to be part of my squad are allready squad leaders...
And bout new players. I enjoy most of them because they are currios and follow orders because they dont know what to do. Some times, a guy with no aim but who sits where u put him to sit can supress down an entire squad while u sneak up behind them. But thats off topic.

Or blew your stealth movement shooting at everything from a long distance lol.Duck wrote:And bout new players. Let's go back to the topic : Loners can only be good as spotter (I assume no loners would enter a squad to take a kit then leave, wouldn't they? or if we assume a loner inside a squad for a specific job per se). Alos, they can be good at killing single target (sniper comes to my mind).
As far as i am concerned, I am a terrible lone wolf lol. Everytime, I face a whole enemy squad and even if I can kill two guys they still take me down (and of course, the two guys are revived lol).
We can see that loners can be new players (without a mic not to bother "other" mic players) or just pure lone wolf who like rambo, predator and the sound of music. They can be an asset as long as there are not too many of them.
The best victory is when the opponent surrenders of its own accord before there are any actual hostilities... It is best to win without fighting.

Thats the thing, i can kill most of them and not even get shot at, and they cant get revived cus their medic is kinda dead and i got my sights on his body so nobody takes his kit.Nick_Gunar wrote:As far as i am concerned, I am a terrible lone wolf lol. Re: Lone wolf?
Lone wolfing to get 'lots of kills' is a terrible idea and doesn't really help your team unless you're an insurgent (in which case dying is still bad as it gives them intel points).
Lone wolfing to get intel / take out high priority targets can however, be a godsend, provided that:
A.) You can do the job (anyone can stay alive by hiding in a corner, but if you can't move from place-to-place to be useful, you're useless)
B.) You're not shit at it (and just get spotted/shot and give the enemy your kit & tickets)
Depending on the map or objective you're trying to achieve, depends on the kit you'd be using. Generally 'lone wolfing' refers to the use of sniper kits, which is good for taking out priority targets (medics, SLs, crewmen), but generally the 'best kit' for spotting patterns/intel (such as where insurgents keep running to after firing RPGs to rearm) is definately the specialist kit simply for the ability to get to high places that no one will either think of, or if they do, usually be unable to reach. Afterall, you only really need your binocs.
Lone wolfing relies on the ability to make unconventional and often long path ways to infiltrate the enemy lines and get yourself into a good position without being spotted, and after a few minutes in a location, keep moving so as not to arouse suspicion.
I've said this in another thread before, but some of my best rounds have been as a scout-sniper on Al Basra as the British; infiltrating the heart of the city, NOT going up the bloody hotel, and relaying intel back to the team (big red, caches, hideouts, RPG troops, bomb cars) whilst also getting the occasional crafty kill myself...
Whilst having a specialist with me to get somewhere inaccessable to the enemy would be great...
A.) Being someone's ***** just for the simple fact that you carry a rope isn't fun.
B.) Being someone's ***** because although they have binocs, you using yours so they don't have to wait for rifle-settle time is more effective.
C.) A tag-a-long runs the risk of being seen (the enemy may not see YOU running across the road, but they may see your friend behind you)
D.) I don't trust anyone else to perform a task I feel capable of doing better than me (tasks I don't like/feel incapable of doing I always leave to other people, such as tank gunning (I drive), it's not that I 'think I'm the best', but I can stop myself from curiously looking around a corner and getting shot... I can't stop the person with me).
There is another skill you need to be great at before being an effective lonewolf; knowing when and how to get the hell out of there when the shit hits the fan.
Dying is not an option if you have a sniper kit against insurgents. I've said this before as well, than when playing PR in squads I tend to find in a firefight it's myself that stays alive and ends up regrouping with the rest of my respawned squad. I've got good instincts, and I don't wait until the last minute to change position or retreat entirely.
You just gotta know where to go, to drop everything and get out of there FAST; if you're spotted, killing that person won't stop them coming back later with all their friends.
Long winded I know, but I'm bored at work... Lone wolfing for intel is great, but lone wolfing 'for the hell of it' is just silly.

Re: Lone wolf?
I guess It's kinda hypocritical after all the pro-team jargon I tend to spout, but I often like lone-wolfing it on uncrowded maps where the win is not all a big deal.
There's something really quite fun about taking your time and going bush-to-bush for about 8 minutes, and than setting up your rifle in the PERFECT ambush position.
Personally, I treat it as a one-man hunting expedition: only engage targets if you feel like it, and do it when it suits you. There's no rush or anything, so just take it in...
OGT was probably the best for this... sneak over the mountain as british and set up in a hunters blind near the enemy uncap... It was perfect.
Of course, the down-side is that if you get shot, you're most likely gonna die
and since it's irritatinng to spend your whole round walking back to get shot, I only do this every once in a while, and never twice-in-a-row.
Al-Basrah is pretty good for this as well... just sneak through the fields and camp up in a house.

Re: Lone wolf?
i think this guy is right. This helps the team valubley someone on their own who is stealthy quick and defintley uses MUMBLE to help other squads know what danger there is upahead. I would only suggest people who do this to have played PR long enough to know that the Main goal would be not to get caught and not try to rambo it but to only shoot someone if its abosultely nescsery. If u think about it its the best kind of recon you can get.

Re: Lone wolf?
Occasionally I wander away from my squad and recon our flanks sometimes I end up getting a little too far (100 meters)
Usually when we have contact I try to go around and flank the enemy unless I'm AR or medic. I value teamwork alot, but sometimes I prefer to do things my way
