New computer build : Advice needed

alright I have decided that in the next month I am going to build a new PC on a 1k budget (total after tax and shipping)

at the moment my current PC is still running a Pentium D (dual core at 2. with a back-up X700 (over-clocked) that replace my 1650 pro after it caught fire and the thing is finally about to kick the bucket since about half of the hardware is starting to fail. I am planing on re-using the disk and hard drives in-order to save some cash but the rest will have to go.

the reason for these components is to be able to upgrade later (mainly the mobo and the PWS) but is there anything I could skimp on the bring the price down from $930 USD or is this pretty much as low as I can get it?


also this would be my first ground up build and any advice would be great.

If you want to dip the price down any further, you could go with a LGA 1156 Intel i5. They are quite a bit cheaper, and they are very easy to overclock.

If you want to stick with the LGA 1366, you could also get a cheaper motherboard. Get a high quality motherboard, yes, but just getting the very best does not mean you will get any better performance, especially since you're getting a sub-high-end videocard. A good 2 slot PCI-E x16 will be all you will need for a long time.

I have seen so many people that never even use two slots, let alone 3. New videocards come out that make all the cards before it obsolete, and many times these people simply buy the single, new one.
