Salute to an era bygone!

Post by cfschris »

Browsing though and drooling over v0.9 videos on youtube, I accidentally ran into an old favorite, and without a doubt one of the most defining videos of PR ever to be made....

<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/iOQBEsmXyis&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/iOQBEsmXyis&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>[/youtube]

Yup, good ol' 0.5. I had dabbled some with 0.4, but shes the one that got me hooked. The iconic Mao Valley, the A10 and Cobra on Al Basrah (god how I miss them so  ), and last but not least 1337 SpecOps missions w/ silenced pistols of pwnge!!!!!!

-

Well, some things have changed now and some have stayed the same, but we can all agree that the same kind of absolute AWESOME put into this great mod back then remains at the same level for 0.9, this Friday.......can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same here. Makes me feel good knowing I can show these whippersnappers a thing or two in a pub match though. I gotta say though, the only thing which has disappointed me with the PR series as a whole as been the slow reduction of air assets from maps....nothing spices up infantry combat like the ever present threat of death from above!

I really liked the .5 trailer, but i thought that most people hated it.

but ive played since .75, ive seen alot of changes. some i liked, some i didnt. my biggest regret concerning PR is that i never got to play the original mini-mod.

Yeah I remember there being GIF avatars made out of that video. Somebody still has one of them with the blackhawk dropping people off in the water.

I still love the song in that trailer. I'm not going as far as to say it was the song that got me hooked on PR .5, but hey... ;)

Thank you for reminding me of Mao valley... Probably the most intense PR-map ever.

Yeah the 0.5 trailer has a great style to it (song, cinematography).

The 0.9 trailer is good, yet personally I think it'd be better with more flowing footage throughout instead of fading to black then flashing images. It certainly is effectively teasing though.

Am I wrong or currently we have less buildings which demolish during an explosion? Or just because people are not going for buildings any more?

p.s: thats a great trailer video!

Whats the song again? ;D

The funny thing is that threads about 0.5 trailer always come up during new releases. :D
New trailer is quite nice too. :)

I think it's just that the maps are so huge now that the destroyables have to be spread out a bit more. There is a limit on how many you can have on a map before it causes server crashes (255?) and even if your map has less than that, the destroyables can cause serious lag. So you are seeing the same amount of them, they are just spread out further.

I can't remember if I started in .5 or .6 but how you could get ammo off of technicals and the Barret50 with double uzis kit, oh the good old days... I'm thinkin .9 is gonna compete with those days!
