Resolution Problems

Post by Viper[ESF] »

After I finally got BF2 running through deleting all my profiles, I now have another Problem.

The Game lets me select 1920x1080, but doesnt apply it. (at least not fully)
The menus are stretched like fuck and look awful, ingame looks acceptable, but also not widescreen.

I tried parameters that I found on the interwebz (+widescreen 1, +szx, +szx y, ...), but they didnt bring a change.

Then I tried a program called Widescreen Fixer, which actually seems to fix the resolution INGAME. Menus stay the same.
My suggestion is, that BF2 is too dumb to render 16:9 properly, as it all looks like 4:3. The Ingame Resolution without Widescreen Fixer also looks like a 1920x1080 resolution stretched to a 4:3 format. With widescreen fixer applied, it changes to proper 16:9. I added some screen so you can see what I mean... Is there anyway to make the menus normal and to not need to run the program? I hope it doesnt get me banned by PB or something...

You can't fit a 4:3 aspect ratio picture into 16:9 aspect ratio frames. End of story. So the menus have to be streched and there is nothing you can do about it.

But the ingame screen is a whole different story, because it's not a static picture but a viewport to an another world. It works just like windows in the real world: if the window is widen, it doesn't effect world's dimensios, you just see it a bit more of it at a time.

Edit:
*push* barely after one hour wait? You gotta learn some patience, young padwan...

That doesnt really help me...

So if I got you right the Menu are stretched on that resolution, because the PR Devs used a 4:3 aspect ratio picture?

But still theres the ingame thingy. With the program Widescreen fixer it gets true 16:9 what I really enjoy... Can I keep on using it or will it get me banned or something?

What other choises they have? Make a dedicated menu screens for every possible resolution/aspect ration combination from 800x600 up to Eyefinity and possible more? Nope. One size fits for all.

All Widescreen Fixer does is zooming. It zooms ingame screen out so that your picture becomes superset of respective 4:3 picture instead of being subset of it. Widescreen Fixer is accepted by PunkBuster so you won't be kicked, but you won't need it because BF2's 1.5 patch added native widescreen support to BF2 and it's mods.

See my screenshots... You see a big difference between BF2 native and widescreenfixer... So I guess I will go with the Widescreen Fixer and give a shit about the menus. :)
