Re: 0.9 Crashing to desktop
This is really bugging me now, I downloaded .87 3 days ago, and couldn't get that to work, then spent 3 hours downloading .9 only to go even further back. Here is my setup:
CPU: Intel Pentium D (Dual Core) @2.8Ghz
GPU: Asus ATi HD4350 512Mb Silent
RAM: 2Gb Kingston PC2-5300 @667Mhz
Operating Systems tried:
Windows Xp (32Bit)
Windows Vista (32Bit)
Windows 7 (64Bit)
On Windows Vista, I got so far as the maps loading on .87 but then CTD. Join Server 0.9 CTD
On Windows 7, I got Join Server straight CTD on both 0.87 and 0.9.
On Windows XP, I got Join Server>Picked Map>Deploy>CTD. 0.9
However, on XP at least (cannot access other OS's ATM) I can create and join my local server match to try out the maps and all works perfectly on low setting.
I have turned everything off, no firewall, no AV, no GPU SysTray Icon etc.
Trying a complete reinstall of BF2, v1.41>1.50. PR.9 1&2. Now.
I am really stumped with this one, and after getting the PR fever again this monday, and not being able to play .87 annoyed me a little, but then after seeing the .9 trailer and not being able to play that too...well it really grinds my gears...Diane?

Re: CTD when deploying 0.9
I still am CTD without warning.. Win7 32bit....8800gts 648mb SLI'[R-COM wrote:thepalerider;1256024']I haven't fired up mine yet but try some of these:
If you still have trouble run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files
Still no joy?
Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache
Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.
Still CTD?
Make a new user and try to join a server.
Don't worry about your settings yet, battlefield cleaner can transfer old
settings to the new one later
OK
Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001
I thought I read W7 users didn't need or shouldn't use the XP compatibility mode.
Running as Admin. and cleared out cache. PR not running in compatibility mode.
Did a fresh install of PR v.09 and I still get CTD

I agree.iKill wrote:Who does??? Maybe it's time for the devs to take a look in this section now, cause it seems many are having alot of difficulties with both FH2 and PR includingme.
It should have nothing o do with our hardware if other games works perfectly. I think its a bug with some machines that peoples have. There's probably a memory bug.
So frustrating feeling when the only thing I've looked forward to is to play PR this friday. And still no good answers out there. It's just fucked up.

Re: 0.9 Crashing to desktop
I just found the solution to MY problem!!!
I just thought something was fucked up when the game crashed to desktop after I clicked on "audio" in "settings".
So I deactivated all my sound hardware. I have an X-FI Fatal1ty FPS card for playback the sounds and one X-Fi Go! USB device for recording my voice.
I dunno, but I deactivated the X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS card and started up vanilla BF2.exe. Went into audiosettins and no crash. Connected to a game with no crash at all.
I then did the same with PR 0.9. No crash at the audiosettings and I played online without any problems.
Its just, that I have NO sounds at all......
So I've found that its a matter of a sound conflict for me. Dunno if it's the drivers, but as I said, they're all up 2 date.
So people, maybe there's any of you wich are having the same problem as me, then try my tip. For me I think it's easier to go to the bottom now with these ctd problems.

So far what I'm experiencing is only on Create Local on Multiplayer. I was checking out the maps.
I get CTD while loading Fallujah West. And Memory alloc thing after loading Dragon Fly or CTD while loading Dragon Fly. I haven't tried ALL map in this version, but I can load few others I tried without problem in Create Local. Also Al Basrah seems to be much more unstable at Join Server moment compared to previous version.
Honestly, I'm too afraid to go try Online. Thinking if I am to discover I can't join any server with this problems, after 6 hours of DLing.
I really don't think its something to do with my Computer capability. I never had this problem before and as I said some new map runs fine.
Edit: Iron Ridge gets memory alloc problem. Happens in earlier stage of loading.
It did work. After changing all setting to Medium from all High, all maps that CTDd or gave me memory alloc problem is loading fine now.'Murdoch[GER wrote:;1256236']After changing the texture settings to medium everything seem to work now, so it might help many of you.
What fix is there so I can play in original Highest setting again?
And what do you guys mean by FH2 and PR? Does 0.9PR affect the FH2 ? I just updated it to FH2 2.25 few days ago and had no problem.
Edit: After memory Alloc error thing happens, Desktop background becomes all black. Black is selected as my Color option under Desktop property.

Re: 0.9 Crashing to desktop
Well my audio is fine and all my drivers are up to date. Before i had v.9 installed i was playing vbf2 alittle and i NEVER had a crash. What exactly causes memory problems? I have 3 gigs of ram and 1 gig on my video card so running this shouldn't be a problem. Just saying, lots of people are having these problems (ctd, memory, fps drop) so it shouldn't be our computers that are screwing this game up.iKill wrote:I just found the solution to MY problem!!!

Still having problems all settings at Med PR CTD....NO problem running regular BF2
**UPDATE TO MY PROBLEM ****
I was able to play Co-Op SP (32bots) on Al Basra with no errors at all. (At this point I was able to ESC without CTD) Pressing my luck, I decided to go into my clan's private server which was running Jalal al I forget
My settings were all at High NO AA. (SETTINGS ON MEDIUM DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM)
When I tried to go into my clan's public server running Dragon Fly 54/64 The load screen got to "Verfying Client Data..." and thats is when it CTD. My other CTD reports was when the maps were the new ones in v0.9. (THe map were the Americans can jump in to take down the Airfield and Gaza Strip.)
So I only seem to have this CTD error when playing on a new map and also anytime i hit ESC while in a Public Server
I hope this information helps slove the problem.
Without my PR I fix I might have to go re-up in the Army again.

Re: 0.9 Crashing to desktop
Because the map is beeing loaded into your RAM.XxxGrANdmA wrote:Just woundering, why would a map work but then when server is done with it and loads a new one, it crashes? I don't understand why?
Memory allocation actually means that the program is reserving itself some space in the RAM/virtual DiskSpace. This doesn't seem to be working as this is what causes the error.
So on your question: That actually makes pretty much sense, because when you have loaded a map into your RAM but there was an error to free up space, there wont be enough space for a 2nd map in your RAM. Why 4 GB RAM isn't enough? BF2 cant recognize and use 4 Gigs. I think only 2 GBs.
Don't know what's the situation about that in 0.9 though. They wanted to fix the memory allocation problem, but may have caused it to come up much more frequent.
If anyone intends to reinstall PR: Please try to use the program I posted 2 links ago first. It should allow PR to use more than 2 Gigs. I'm not sure if it works and I dont wanna risk reinstalling as I'm pretty busy right now.
If it works, it'd be awesome.

Re: 0.9 Crashing to desktop
put me on the list as well. Issues are definately up with mine as well.
Loading into a server half the time I have invisible ground.
CTD's
5 minutes into some games , all of a sudden my screen flashes and the game starts running extremely sluggishly. I have a powerful computer, runs it 100+ FPS before this happens.
Windows 7 64 bit
Core i7 920
evga gts 250 1gb
Reinstalled bf2 / 1.41+1.50
reinstalled PR v0.9
Did get mroe stable since then but still CTD's!!

Re: 0.9 Crashing to desktop
Well, clearing my caches (Not just your video cache, clear your server cache as well) seems to have stopped the CTD's. but now I am getting random lock ups. (Completely just locks up everything and freezes. Have to restart)
I used to get this in 0.874 but it only started when I got my new Monitor at christmas, wich was fukin wierd and stupidly anoyying. It was also only after playing for about an hour, or loading a second map in a server. But I just got it in a server after only a few minutes.
All these problems are friggin infuriating and I am going to break something reall soon. Im pissed off.

Re: 0.9 Crashing to desktop
Ok I just went to the site and got the "4GB patch". The size of patch is only 6.3KB. I was little suspicious so I runned virus scan, nothing found and used them. I chose the PR Icon on desktop as executable. Software told me its patched, I runned PR again on map Dragon Fly, CTD at same moment with same memory alloc error. It happens right after bar goes up to 100% and say verifying. So patch seems to have no effect. But Thank you anyway.Malchuth wrote: If anyone intends to reinstall PR: Please try to use the program I posted 2 links ago first. It should allow PR to use more than 2 Gigs. If it works, it'd be awesome.
After it crashes it makes my screen background all black because black is my default color when there is no picture. So somehow after crash background picture is not displayed.
It's weird. I bet most of player is playing this mod on all high setting. I want to fix this problem as fast as possible as I anticipated alot for 0.9.

Seems to be getting more stable with time
BUT STILL FUKING LOCKING UP!!!!!!! This is UNPLAYABLE NOW.
I have a feeling all these problems come from the old Direct x 9 files BF2 installs when you do a fresh install of BF2. I know nothing of working with DLL files though. SOMEONE LOOK INTO THIS!!!
Devs need there attention brought here as well if it hasnt been already!! Please people get ont his!! I am scowering forums/google looking for a fix!! Nothing yet.

Ugh, thought I was the only one...
In my case, I'm pretty lucky if I make it back to desktop, and restarting the PC every 2 rounds is getting annoying.

Re: 0.9 Crashing to desktop
Hey. I'm posting again because I found new details.
First of all, my CTD and memory alloc error only happened in certain maps. I could load other maps fine with highest setting. After reading through this thread, I found out that by bringing down video setting to Medium this could be solved somehow. Although I havn't tested it throughly, I tried the Medium setting and it worked.
So I thought, Not all setting have to be Medium to be stable right? So I picked out likely setting that might be affecting whats going on. So, I only picked 1. Geometry 2. Terrain 3. Texture, and setted it on Medium setting. As I thought. Dragon Fly won't get memory alloc error after loading and I can get into map. So I switched these 3 setting between Medium and High, and found that "Texture" have to be set at Medium in order to not crush. After setting only Texture to medium, I can load Fallujah, Iron Ridge, and Dragon Fly.
I tested these settings using map Dragon Fly Create a Local under Deployment (Multiplayer). What I found out was, when Terrain setting is set at Medium along with Texture, PC won't get into short period of looping after clicking Join Server after finished loading. I can still get into Dragon Fly with only Texture at Medium, but some short period looping happens after clicking Join Server after finished loading the map. As for Fallujah and Iron Ridge loop won't happen.
Now at this point some might think it could be happening because of lack of performance on my PC side.
I hope these information I have been posting helps to solve this problem faster.

Also ... many people have been experiencing problems when they have only 2GB in their systems. The new patched BF2 1.5 allows more than 2GB to be used, but it seems there may not be any safety checks for people who have ONLY 2GB.
I hope these information I have been posting helps to solve this problem faster.

Maybe we have an error here???Changed the way factions, inits, and spawners are loaded on each map. It "should" decrease loading times and resource usage
