Im gonna have to say it was a backfire.

Im also having problems loading maps but instead I need to restart my computer every time I try to laod a map. My computer is a turd so it can be simply that it cant handle it but there is a definite trend going on.

Could it be the torrent download was bad for some?

I chose the PR Icon on desktop as executable. Software told me its patched, I runned PR again on map Dragon Fly, CTD at same moment with same memory alloc error. It happens right after bar goes up to 100% and say verifying. So patch seems to have no effect. But Thank you anyway.
Uh ok, thank you for having a go. At least worth the try.
I'll try to set the Textures to Medium later on, thanks for that...

No, that's impossible.

Ok, I may have found a fix for SOME of us, on my system I install all of my games on a separate hard drive partition. But i installed Windows XP Black Edition on a new partition and then proceeded with a fresh installation of vanilla BF2, but this time installed it to the same partition as Windows, then i proceeded to install Patch 1.41 and patch 1.50 for BF2, then i installed PR .9 to the EA Games directory for BF2 (as you do) so now all of the game and mod were installed on the same partition as Windows, i also decided not to install Mumble as I thought maybe that was doing something wrong, so here is the full procedure of what I did:

1. Install Windows Xp Black Edition to a fresh partition of 50GB.
2. Update my video and sound drivers.
3. Install BF2 (To same partition)
4. Install Patch 1.41
5. Install Patch 1.50
6. Install PR 0.9 Part 1
7. Install PR 0.9 Part 2 (without installing Mumble at the end)
8. Changed the properties file of the shortcut to Compatibilities running in Windows XP SP2 Mode and Run As Administrator.
9. Started game from Shortcut on desktop called Project Reality 0909.
10. Played the game online for the first time in 4 days!!!

let me know if this procedure helped anymore of you guys out, and if it does...See you on the Battlefield Soldier!

UPDATE: After deciding I didn't want to stick with the old XP operating system, I tried this method on my Windows 7 (64 bit) partition and am glad to say that it works, so now i am able to play PR v0.9 on Windows 7 (64 Bit) with no problems, will update again later after i install Mumble to see if that was the problem.

Do to the large volume of CTD I'm posting my list of things to try.
Hopefully some will find solutions here.
Please keep in mind this is a work in progress.
PR 9 is new and the best thing we can do is keep our cool and try to help each other.
Hopefully some will find this helpful.

When asking for help,
please remember to post your:
O/S,
systems specks,
network setup
And a brief history before and after problem started.
Please describe when your CTD or problem hits and
what you have already tried.

The most common causes of CTD are:
Failure to uninstall any previously installed versions of PR.
This can easily be done via the Windows Control Panel
'Add and Remove Programs' icon, under "Project Reality 0.x".*,
then delete the PR folder to remove any leftover files.
Don't forget to delete the desktop short as well.
PRv.909 uses 2 installers. You must install both 'Part 1' and 'Part 2'.
It is recommended that you restart your system after you install/uninstall programs
to ensure all installed components, files and registry entries are correctly installed or removed.

BF2 not updated to v 1.41 before patching with v1.5
FULL update 1.41
Final v1.5

Some have posted Updating with the
1.5 update
Sometimes does not complete, but looks like it does.
To find your version of BF2
run PR in 'windowed' mode
Look at the upper left corner
you should see
v.1.5.3153-802.0

Incomplete install of 'part 1' & 'part 2'
Project Reality v 0.87 uses TWO separate Client Installers and should be installed in this order.
v0.9-part1 of 2

first and followed by v0.9-part2 of 2.
(Use the 'levels' installer to make a desktop short cut.)
If you get any errors, download a new installer from a different source and try again.
Compatibility mode to xp and run as admin not set in desktop shortcut on Vista PCs
Right click shortcut
choose 'properties' from bottom of list
Click on the Compatibility 'tab'(along the top of the window)
Check 'run as admin' box, select WINDOWS XP(service pack 2

In game textures set to 'HIGH'
Set the textures to medium.
I'm not sure why this makes a difference with high-end cards that can run games like Crysis on high quality settings with no problem at the same res,
but for some reason it can matter in Project Reality.

Running out of memory
AncientMan;913997']The most common cause of this is that you are running out of memory.
BF2 was a memory intensive game, and PR only increases on that.

First, you can try lowering your video settings, in particular, Textures. If that doesn't help or fix your issue,
you can try increasing your virtual memory. Information on how to do this is located in the Red stickys.
See HERE.

Mutli core/processor causing errors
If you have more than one cpu or 'core' you can set the 'affinity'(force the game to run on one cpu or core only) through your shortcut by adding
AFFINITY 2
to your shortcuts 'target' string like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" start /AFFINITY 2 +fullscreen 1
Your shortcut can do more. I use:
start +widescreen 1 +szx 1600 +szy 1200 +restart +playerName xxxx +playerPassword xxxx

Replace XXXX with your user name and password

Adding this string bypasses the startup video, logs you in and takes you directly to the server browser.

Punk Buster not updated:
Before you go online to join a server
you should:
1. Download pbsvc

2. Start pbsvc installer, you should see options for install, uninstall, test.
3. Run the Uninstaller, then delete the PB folder to remove any leftover files.
4. Restart your computer.

5. reinstall punk buster files with pbsvc( if your using Vista DO NOT set compatibility to XP, run as admin ok)
6. After pcsvc installs, click the "test" option to check the punk buster install you just did.
5. Make sure it comes back "all green"
6.Download pbsetup
(pbsvc DOES NOT install pbsetup.
If your using Vista DO NOT set compatibility to XP, run as admin ok)
7.Create a pbsvc installer shortcut AND pbsetup program shortcut on your desktop.
8.Run pbsetup (from the shortcut on your desktop) add BF2 to the games list, then hit update."

(pbsvc installs the punk buster 'engines' or applications.
PBsetup installs the files/gas the 'engines run)

Check Punkbuster B is set to auto re-start.
Open your Control Panel. Go to Administrative Services. Click

on Services while PR is running. Select Punkbuster B, right click, select properties, select the recovery tab and make sure they all say "Restart the service" for all three dropdowns. You can do the same for PB A, but generally speaking, it's the B client that stops responding. Any time you update PB, you may need to re-do this step.
Firewall not set up (open) for BF2 and punk buster
UPDATE YOUR FIREWALL

Make sure your firewall has permission for:

BF2.EXE
PBSETUP.EXE
(search for your location)

PNKBSTRA.EXE
path:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\PNKBSTRA.EXE
or (not 100% sure but for 32 bit O/S I think it's)C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW32\PNKBSTRA.EXE
PnkBstrB.exe
path:
"C:\Users"your user name here"\AppData\Roaming\PnkBstrB.exe"
Don't forget to open for BF2VoipServer as well:
C/Program Files/EA Games/Battlefield 2/BF2VoipServer.exe

Are you using the downloaded version of BF2? IF yes check out:Another fix to try when having crash to desktop issues when using the downloaded version of BF2

Run PR in 'windowed' mode
If you still have problems
run PR in 'windowed' mode to see if any error messages come up
(instead of running in full screen, it runs in a 'window')
To do so
Right click on shortcut.
Choose properties from bottom of list.
Modify the text in your shortcut's 'target' window.

Change
+fullscreen 1
to
+fullscreen 0

Then Google or use 'search' on Project Reality web page for the error message you get.

Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.

Make a new user and try to join a server.
Don't worry about your settings yet, battlefield cleaner can transfer old
settings to the new one later

Delete the original BF2 folder from your documents folder.

Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your new PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
Path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001

Check fans and clean inside your PC case.

I've read a large number of CTD are caused by overheating video card issues
so rule out overheating issues by opening your case,
cleaning inside and setting up a large fan to blow into the open case
while you play a few rounds. If that helps install a extra fan or two.

Read the manual
you will find a lot of helpful stuff.

Good luck

Well I rolled back my video drivers (nvidia GTS 250 1gb) to some from November last year. It has worked very nicely.

I did CTD when I accidentally tried joining another server while I was still in a game. The "Are you sure you want to disconnect" box came up and then it CTD. But other than that played 3 long *** rounds perfectly.

Bf2 memory allocation error was supposed to be fixed with vBf2 patch 1.5. However, the fix did not work on certain computers. My friend had the memory problem (crash during loading of second map playing-CTD while playing) after installing .874, so it could be the same problem, which can be fixed using this guide-
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f358-software-operating-systems/51859-i-found-fix-memory-dll-error-vista-32-64-bit-users-5.html
I hope it helps :-|

Increase your virtual memory. Try 8192 (8gb) or more. Google will help you on how to increase your virtual memory for your specific operating system :) .

Does this really help? From my understanding PR/BF2 ain't able to allocate all the space available through RAM. Is virtual space really handled differently? Because if it is, this would absolutely solve the problem for everyone as the problem (per definition) is solved by allocating enough space (but I kinda doubt that noone ever thought about this simple solution?).

you do not need to set all gfx settings to medium, set em all to high and keep lighting to medium ( do not confuse with lighting detail) , worked for me.

incresing my virtual memory wont help unless you have like 2 gigs of ram and only 1 gig of virtual, you need at least 2 gigs of virtual then. Anything above that is overkill.

I started with crashing all the time I have now gotten it down to "only" crash between rounds, I have set lightning and shadows to medium and AA off that seemed to help the most.

PR/BF2 is a strange bug of code :)

It ran fine except one crash in aprox. 3-4 hours...

Since two 2 days it crashed random every 30 mins - 1 Hour. Sometimes it freezes , sometimes CTD.

No mater which maps, sometimes after load sometime in game.

I havent changed anythink in Windows or PR..
