PR start up not working

Post by buckie33 »

So I finally get the thing installed but when I click to start PR a error message keeps comming up saying "PR.exe has stopped working"

anyone know how to fix this, or how to fix it without re-downloading it because I dont wanna use up my bandwidth.

That is a very general error, there could be literally thousands of things that could cause that. Need to be more specific.

Did you uninstall PR .087 before installing? You should go into add or remove programs and remove the old version before installation.

Run normal bf2 and activate pr from there, ive suggested this too other people in other threads here since it worked for a few people but they seemed to have ignored it(not uncommon with my posts :p ) and let me know how it works out.

Still nothing, I went into BF2, selected a PR server and clicked join server and it just kicked me back to the server list again.

I am getting this same error when I click to play. This is the error message I receive after I click to start PR, "the application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b). click OK to terminate application". Any ideas how to fix this?

Googled = 'the application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b)'
And found this:

"These error messages may be caused by the WORM_KLEZ.E virus, or one of its variations. The executable file name "qbw32[xxx].exe" may vary, where "[xxx].exe" is a randomly generated and false executable name.

Run norton antivirus or macafee antivirus and check ur comp for viruses....
that shoudl solve ur problem

CHECK IF THIS HELPS

So I don't have any virus or worms on my system. I simply get the dialog box that pops up immediately after clicking on the PR 9090 shortcut that says "pr.exe has stopped working" " Check online for a solution and close the program" or "Close the program". Behind this dialog box is the PR Initial Load up screen. I have Windows 7 and prior to this was playing PR .874 just fine. As the previous guy said, "Bye Bye PR, it was fun while it lasted!" One of the best games I've ever played but it was too good to be true. :-(

buckie33, do not give up yet. One of the developers just responded to your thread with sound advice and that's to run Project Reality as an administrator on Windows Vista. I had the same exact problem and when I ran it as administrator, voila, the game worked. Problem solved.

johnson6048,
I think if your running W7 your don't need to set compatibility to XP.

Have you read through the red sticky:
Read This If You Have Pr.exe problems

What is the path to your pr.exe?
What happens when you try starting the pr.exe by clicking on it?

Some other things you can try:
If you still have trouble run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files. Good idea to run it after a crash.

Still no joy?

Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.

Still CTD?

Make a new user and try to join a server.
Don't worry about your settings yet, battlefield cleaner can transfer old
settings to the new one later

OK
Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001

Hope it helps

Ok, so im slowly making progress

I right clicked the PR short cut and hit properties
then I went to the Compatability tab
and selected the box "Run this program for Windows XP (service pack 2)

so no I dont get the message "PR is not working"

but the PR logo that you see when you first start the program just stays there for about 5 min then goes back to the dashboard.

Anyone know how to fix this part?

Palerider, thank you for your help. After posting my comment I did a little more reading around and read somewhere to try "Run As System Administartor." So I tried that and it worked just fine! SWEET back in business! My user account on my personal computer has all administrative rights but for some reason it wasn't administrative enough for the game. Right clicking and running as Administrator was the key. Now I may play around with it some other time and see if I can get the shortcut fixed so that I don't have to do that every time. Again thank you so much for your help.
