Chinook Cockpit

Post by Punkbuster »

Hey Guys...
First of all this is not a suggestion...
Today I was flying the chinook for the first time on Archer...
I flew for 35 Minutes successfully while doing evacs and many things in even hot zones
Then when a squad in the buttom right corner that just took a cache out... and they asked me for extraction so I went to them and they were in a village which they closed with (this thing that you build I forgot its name...) anyway I was going to land but it took me like 5 tries to becaus I can see whats below me bacause the chinook cockpit blocks the buttom middle of the screen and at the I ended hitting a supply crate with the tail which caused the chopper to flip

So guys... what do you think... should this cockpit be changed?

PS. I am pretty sure it isnt like that in real life as the pilot must see what below him!

check the glass in the cockpit... this is what is used to see beneath the pilot in real life: Image

There are glass panels by the rudder pedals that the pilot uses to see what's under him.

Yep.. and these arent available in game....
They are available for the huey ingame... but you need to press CTRL and move the mouse to see them and this way you wont be able to control the chopper.

You can do the same thing in the Chinook, the panels are there. I do agree though that it is a little constricting.

However, if you have to state that something is not a suggestion then it probably really is.

The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "

Is it possible to purchase 3D viewing glasses that you can use for mouse look in PR?

I know it's possible in FSX..(Flight Simulator X)

A proper sujestion would be to add a new "weapon slot" to be able to view below, as you can for left-right-up positions in numbers 7-8-9. Also add it to the damn apache, and all other choppers.

Probably just needs a camera/FOV adjustment.

There could always be some kind of internal camera panel that could appear in the chinhook that displays the ground beneath you (similar to how gun cam works).

Me thinks it may be visibility problem, look how dark Silent Eagle is. But if it doesn't happen to be that, than It may be the position of the pilots camera. Flew the Chinook today on Silent Eagle, only problem was finding suitable LZ's and seeing the guys I had to pick up. Kept the helo up the whole round cause of its dynamic landing gear.

Yeah, dynamic landing gear is a godsend for helo pilots.

It lets you do landings are slightly rough without blowing up the choppers.

i think squad leaders need to remember to use colored smoke to let the helo's know where to do pick ups. and pilots need to land near the smoke.

I've suggested something like this a long time ago, don't know why it hasn't been implemented yet.

Read through it all, and you can even see the codes to do it.

Why not just quickly survey the area you're landing in for a good LZ, and land there?

the game engine controls don't allow you to use the free look using control and still have control over the chopper...I think.

There was a suggestion, actually several suggestions for them to add a landing view to the choppers so you can judge your glide slope down onto the ground.

grid references of the squads/troopers location would be usfull because some of the maps are pretty big and in some maps there arent an awful lot of LZ's becaus of hills and trees

Pressing and holding the Cntrl key will enable you to view around the cockpit - but make sure you are in a steady haver first or it will all go wrong...

Alternately use a co-pilot
