I'm having Black Screen Startup Crash.
I've read the other posts and none seem to post updates. I tried everything everyone suggest in the other threads and nothing fixed the problem. I changed resolution, refresh rate. This is on a desktop as well. Currently I am running at 1600x1800 at 60Hz I tried 800x600@60 and 75 Tried 1200x1024 (or similar) At 60 and 75 Still nothing. Can anyone update status on this problem?

Run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files. ( good to do whenever your game crashes)
The problem could be that something is telling BF2 to load a resolution that your monitor or video card doesn't support. In my case it was my new widescreen LCD.
That "something" is actually 3 files in the "C:\Documents and Settings\[Your User Name]\My
Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles" directory. In that Profiles directory are 3 folders called
0001, 0002, and Default. Inside each of those 3 folders is a file called Video.con. You need to
open each of those 3 Video.con files and search for the line that says
"VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x960@75Hz". Change all 3 files to a resolution & refresh rate
that you know the monitor and video card support, and BF2 should work like a champ again.
Still CTD?
OK
Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder.
Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your
'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001
Hope it helps

Ok I found a fix. For one reason or another it was showing I had 1.5 installed on battlefield 2 but it messed up durring installation. I uninstalled everything, Reinstalled battlefield, Patch 1.41 and then 1.5 then the mod it works flawlessly now.
