IED's almost useless now?
when i played fallujah yesterday, i was a bit disapointed about the ied power.
"-Updated all IED's and VBIED's to now have realistic blast radii and damage values"
the blastradius was almost lowered to the radius of a normal fraggranate.
(correct me if i'm wrong)
and a hummvie needs at least 2 ieds to blow up.
Maybe it's realistic, but in my opinion it hurts the gameplay
and ied should be more powerful like in 0.86.
PS:if there is a similar thread, i'm sorry, but i actually haven't found one.

On Korengal, blowing up bridges and cliffs with combat engineer is hard because it takes like 6 ied's before anything happens.

Re: IED's almost useless now?
get hold of arty ieds (the normal insurrgent ied is only a pipebomb remember)
in regards to the combat engineer you just have to use your time, bridges are very valuable and destroying them in an instant doesn't happen in reallife either

The thing is the type of IED used as standard on PR doesn't look to be alot of explosive so you will probs find that it wouldn't blow up a humvee or a bridge but would easily kill a man and critically injure those near by. The PR team need to work on more types of IEDs or make the Artillary IED more available.

I know you say that those kinda ied's exist, but I've yet to see one ingame on any kit. What kit is supposed to have those mythical arty ied's?[R-DEV]motherdear wrote:get hold of arty ieds (the normal insurrgent ied is only a pipebomb remember)

Its a pick up kit normally at the insurgent main, it has an iron sighted Lee-Enfield as the main weapon.

I had 2 IEDs right on a tank today on Gaza Beach and I detonated with glee. When the smoke cleared there was no visible effect. Are car bombs and mines the only reasonable deterrent against heavy armor now?

What you should have done was place a land mine first then place a IED to make it explode manually.

I did that to a challenger on basrah once was brilliant. IED underneath the front of the tank and a mine at the back behind the tracks, Detonated the IED and he went back over the mine w00t!Endymion wrote:What you should have done was place a land mine first then place a IED to make it explode manually.

3 sticks of PE4 will take out a Humvee with ease. Bridge, fair point, it takes a duck load of explosions at key points on the bridge to take one out. But a humvee from underneath? That Humvee's not going anywhere, the people inside will be wounded from the flying bits of metal everywhere.Protector wrote:The thing is the type of IED used as standard on PR doesn't look to be alot of explosive so you will probs find that it wouldn't blow up a humvee or a bridge but would easily kill a man and critically injure those near by. Is PE4 the same as Semtex H (the ied in PR) if so there is only 2 sticks.Herbiie wrote:3 sticks of PE4 will take out a Humvee with ease.

Re: IED's almost useless now?
Interesting topic.
I also believe that there should be a larger variety of IEDs. Damages could be upped or having the systems tweaked would work too. Also, a larger availability of arty IEDs could help.

Re: IED's almost useless now?
I think my clannmate would have to disagree though, yeah they should be used in conjunction with mines.
Iron ridge insurgency as militia we had set up numerous minefields - using ammo from a pickup, and he set 6 ieds inside of rock on a path to the western city.
If they got past the mines... which a lot didn't ( BOOM "Hey I just got 6 more kills, must of hit a mine! )
Then he would detonate his IEDs, which seemed to do the trick on APCs and technicals
and we had two RPG's
I suppose you are right if the range is reduced, but before regular ieds had some crazy damage/range which is why you only got two. Now its a matter of setting up massive traps.
I'm not much of a saboteur though, never have gotten hold of the arty IED I like to just use the good old AT

Not to mention the physical damage from shrapnel, but add in the concussion and whatnot and the driver wouldn't keep on going.Herbiie wrote:3 sticks of PE4 will take out a Humvee with ease. Would you willingly stop at a site an IED had just gone off if you had a choice, I'm sure even with concussion you would put your foot down if your vehicle could move...

Re: IED's almost useless now?
I set a pipebomb on one of the concrete barriers on fallujah by the arches, a humvee drove by and I detonated.... it was on the side of the humvee, the exposed gunner up top didn't even get hurt??
The humvee didn't even RTB, none of them got out to heal.... they just stopped and looked around then drove away.
I think it needs to have nails inside of it, or some sort of shrapnel.
In "The Hurt Locker" all the IEDs were artillery shells or bricks of explosives.... is it possible we could get different more variations of IEDs? Or have artillery shell IEDs more availible?
Ill do some models if needed.

Model some get me the UV's and I will texture them, we can give them to the devs and they can decide if they want to use them.boilerrat wrote: Ill do some models if needed.
