Project Reality Team - Last Bastion of Hope...

I recently bought M.A.G. after being severely letdown by CoD Modern Warefare 2. Once again I was let down - to an extent... but not as bad.

Modern Warefare 2 is horrible. The over-the-top gameplay, rediculous guns, and accessories that don't even make sense, this game was a crock of poo. The maps were horribly thought out and the game really got to the point where essentially the best thing to do would be to camp out, collect points and get your perks on. The skies were filled with choppers/jets/satellites...whatever else. I mean I don't understand how it worked but you could literally fill the airspace in that game with anything... there'd be 50 choppers in the air at once. I was really good at this game and the whole time I knew I wasn't having fun - the game catered to the new "instant gratification" generation of younger kids today. It felt like I was on the scene of the movie "Bridge of Dragons," starring Dolph Lungren. (It's the most ridiculous movie ever). In the end Modern Warefare 2 was a horrible game with a HORRIBLE netcode. (same from CoD 2)

M.A.G. comes out and while I understand the whole "give people incentives to work as a team" concept - it still doesn't fully work. People are still just simply THAT retarded to where they don't work together. Yet, this is the only system I can think of that would be plausible to create a teamwork environment in a commercially released game. Anyhow, with that aside; the inbalanced weapons in the game, lack of maps, glitches, and horrible hud just ruined it. It's a good game but needs tweaking big time. I can't play or mess with it until then.

ARMA II is yet another game - that I hear is actually pretty cool yet you need a godlike machine to run the damn game. Apparently it's pretty glitchy and doesn't run too well and has a lot of it's own problems.

Operation Flashpoint is another game; I don't hear much about it anymore though...

Bad Company 2 is just a revamp of Battlefield 1943; I could go on for days why this game sucks... and why 1943 did as well.. but to sum it up; you cannot go prone... yet they have a bipod on the sniper rifle. It's literally there for looks as you cannot use it. I don't really even feel like going more in depth with it. Horrible game.



...In the end, Project Reality is literally the last bastion of hope for me when it comes to war games. I hope you guys don't ever break up and the whole group stays together and works on PR and more... you guys are it.

If/When you start releasing games in the commercial market - I'm buying all of them. For now PR is great. And it's pretty awesome how you're jumping all over the performance issues with the new patch. Keep it up.

I should add though that I believe most of the players today actually wouldn't - and most likely couldn't - appreciate the vast degree of realism, immersion, balance(!) and sophistication PR has to offer. Some of the reasons for that you already stated and I won't go into this but there is a distinct reason the big game publishers of today are releasing those games they are releasing. Sure there is maximizing of profits in the pool but also that is what people nowadays like since the majority of those gamers dont even originally come from the pc corner rather then being consoleros with all the consequences attached to that fact.

I couldn't agree more and I'm sure that's exactly the thought of hundreds (if not thousands) of players :thumbsup: .
Nothing close to the awesomeness of PR when it comes to PC gaming. Everytime I try another game I'm like "screw that, I'm gonna play PR instead"

agree 100% , but to add:

OPFP2: boring and repetitive single player, MP is not even worth the mention.

ArmA2: good ballistics and weapon handling... everything else sub par.

I remember when I got my first nuke in MW2 and I was like HURRA for 2 minutes its just like u keep doing the same thing over and over without thinking about it.

On the other hand in PR we took down an enemy SQ with 2 people and Im still smiling about it a few days later.

Since rewards are rare in PR and since u actually have to think to achieve something it is so much more rewarding when u actually get something done

I'm glad someone came forward with this, I tried MW2 but perks and unlocks mean nothing to me in gameplay, which seems to be a trend in many other games now. This culture of "if you reach this stage, or beat a boss in this way you will gain a medal", which will either be useless gameplay wise, or an insultingly simple bonus.

It strikes me that you buy a game but now you have to play it religiously in order to gain weapons and armour which should of been yours in the first place, not a few weeks after handing over the cash. You don't buy a T-shirt only to be told you can't have the trousers until you've worn it for a week.

Pointless ranting aside this is what makes PR so great, no tacky unlocks, it's all about making the most of what you have, no constant action, but when the action comes it's all the more satisfying, plus most importantly no matter how small the fight it always feels like your making all the difference to the battle as a whole.

OPFP is the only other shooter to come close multiplayer wise and as for its sequel....meh.

MW2 feels like little kids running around in circles on a playground shooting each other with water guns every time they run into each other... not the sort of game I would want to play for a long period of time.

Very glad that PR is here to satisfy my need for an in-depth FPS experience =)

Bad Company 2 hasn't even released yet, just a beta. It's a sequel to Bad Company 1 it's only relation to BF1943 (which also isn't out on PC yet) is the engine.

I don't even miss prone in the Beta, in fact it eliminates all the prone-diving from BF2.

The Battlefield series never was realistic anyway. As far as modern arcade shooters go, I find BC2 a lot more fun than COD4 or BF2.

Lol, I took down an American squad with a shotgun by myself as an Insurgent Yesterday, that was pretty spectacular.

Unfortunately for Bad Company 2, it feels more like a better version of Call of Duty, rather than an iteration in the Lineage of Battlefield :(
Only it lacks the Grenade spam that both BF2 and COD4 suffered from, to be replaced by People toting Noob tubes with 4 shots standing on an Ammo crate getting unlimited reloads >_>

Hey Arma 2 isn't that bad with the latest patches, you owe it to yourself to try it with the fantastic ACE mod(its for arma like PR is for BF2).
It doesn't have that public cooperation factor that PR has, but once you get into a clan or community like Tactical gamer, the operations that can be run are amazing.



But yes, realistic shooters are getting more and more far-between.

I play every fps shooter at least once, no different with BC2 (smooth on the PS3 but console controllers SUCK for FPS; brutal on the PC), MAG (should have been PC'd), and even MW2 (garbage!) CoD:WaW "Tactical" isn't bad, for TDM anyway, but the ridiculous rules most servers have in place spoil any true "realism" type immersion.

PR is my primary "realism" shooter. Always has been, looks like it will be for at least the near future too.

Also like HL2:Insurgency, Red Orchestra (RO:HoS should be great!) and TrueCombat (fun for a little quick TDM and it's FREE) but it's PR that made me whip $300 out for upgrades this year!

TBH I enjoy MW2 a little bit, it's a nice break when you get burnt out on PR from playing it so much. I hated both ArmA's. OFP: DR was an epic failure. Never played the original OFP. BC2 beta is meh..

PR is by far the best. :D

I agree, its actually kind of relaxing...doesn't really require thinking lol. As far as PC shooters go, PR and AA 2.8x were the best for me. Sure you don't get a kill with "+50" every 10 seconds, but the few kills you do get in project reality is that much more valuable and rewarding.

Hey bro it takes an imagination most of us can only dream of to be able to think that you're a real soldier when you run around the playground shooting someone with a water gun when you run into them.

Looks like fun. If I had the PC for it I would definitly try ARMA II out.

Well, I have played COD MW2, OPFP2, ARMA 2 and various others.

I like COD 2 for the "instance" of it. I mean, if I have an hour of downtime, and I want to get some quick action (no pun intended) then MW2 is great. It requires little to no cooperation, the matches are quick, and it provides a small amount of tactical entertainment.

That being said, nothing compares to the strategic/tactical gameplay of PR. When I want to sit down for a long hard fight, then PR is the go to game. PR is great at immersion, teamwork, and cooperation. I could spend days straight playing PR for sheer love of the game, but alas I have class. Inevitably, both games make for a good mix. However, PR will always be the most user-friendly MILSIM game. ARMA 2 has way too many different controls to be fun, and OPFP 2 is lame. Keep up the good work DEVs.
