PR on CryENGINE 3?

Post by Zengotten »

I was looking at this site and I just had an idea that you guys might be able to license CryEngine 3 and work on making PR a standalone retail game.

With all those features namely the massive maps and dynamic lighting capabilities (full day and night cycles.) you can take PR to a whole new level with CryEngine 3.

For those of you that would say no to this because of graphical performance issues, just look at AION: IGN: Aion Screenshots, Wallpapers and Pics

AION uses CryEngine and the graphics don't look or perform much different from other MMOs, you can scale back the graphical quality however much you want to run on less powerful computers.

Now I am not sure about what the networking performance or the max playercount is out of the box, but since you get the full source code of the engine you can modify however you want and I am sure you will be able to accomplish 64 players or more on a server.

It's worth a try if you guys think it's a good idea, Crytek might even give you a license for free under a contract since you guys are well established and have a very good example of what you are capable of with PR already.

What engine is the team using?
The C4 engine.

Is this the engine that the team won with Mod of the Year 2008?
No. We evaluated the Torque engine(s) and found that the C4 engine would be a better fit for our long term goals.

Why not Unreal? Or id? Or Frostbite? Or <insert other>?
We have no budget. We need to work with an indie priced engine. We don't want to get bogged down in legal contracts and business entities; nor do we want to strike some kind of deal with a publisher who forces us to make a game they want to sell as opposed to the one we want to make. That's leaving aside how improbable a publishing deal would be, too.

Additionally we want to support the Indie gaming community and the C4 engine and it's author Eric Lengyel are stellar examples of how indie gaming is progressing.

From the PR2 thread, I think they are set on their choice of engine

Alas too expensive to buy and the remote possibility of getting it for free would entail entering into a contract.......great engine tho.
