!! You have been kicked for a high ping average of...

Post by Incognito84 »

To server admins:

This is a little unfair. I was just kicked from a server for having a high ping average of 240, which I consider to be relatively low.

People should be kicked on an individual basis. Contrary to popular belief, having a higher ping (200-350) doesn't actually mean someone is lagging the whole server. Problems can arise if a person has a terrible connection, however, which can happen at just about any ping.

Also, Project Reality isn't CS: Source. Having a ping between 200-350ms is fine. There isn't a populated server in my browser that is less than 200 ping (on some days there isn't one under 300, I blame this on a lack of West Coast servers) :(

Anyway, just wanted to get that out there. I just played a two hour game that I was really excelling in and got booted for that stupid reason. Gah...

I play with a ping between 16-50 on UK servers; pings upto 120 can be just about bareable, but at 200+ my game is jerking all over the place, I'll turn a corner and clip back to running forward instead. Don't know how you play at 240...!

 I think every ping above 170-180 is relatively high.

Edit: As Istanbul gamers we are choosing servers where our ping is max 120-130 where we have no problem. Generally we are able to play between 70-90.

While you're right that you're not lagging the whole server, 240 ping is actually very high.

I get ~100-150 ping when connecting through a proxy in germany to a server in the US.

I wouldn't say 150 was 'very high'... 500 is very high. I normally have a ping of about 50 on UK servers however anything up to 350 is completely playable for me. Had 350 on an Australian server once and it didn't affect my game at all in any noticable sense. Maybe if I was flying an attack chopper or something it would be a different story. However around 300 is fine for infantry.

Never heard of this... How? Does it cost money (I might consider it either way)?

I can ping 140 to US West Coast servers although unfortunately there aren't many and they're usually full. There are servers here but Japanese/Korean/Chinese servers all kind of suck (and they're near empty most of the time). They don't join squads, use mics or communicate which kind of kills it for me. Cultural differences.

I can fly jets/helis without any problem, I find that it doesn't really handicap me greatly.

mate... 240 is a pretty high ping. it means any act takes a quarter of a second. i had a 200-300 ping when I lived in Indonesia and i remember I couldnt play BF Vietnam at all.

The proxy is not a way to decrease the ping :P . I have to use it since quite a few ports are blocked for me.
The reason I mention it is that it actually increases the ping, which means I'd have a lower ping if I didnt have to use a proxy.

I also believe that a high ping doesnt really affect your gameplay in BF2, except that you'll have a harder time hitting stuff, as where stuff on your screen and where the server thinks it is, is not completely in sync.

Oh there is one thing you'll have difficulty with if you have a high ping - knifing people :P more often than not you'll get that infuriating 'puff of dust'. However knifing in PR is pretty stupid anyway. Just shoot them.

OUCH.

Context for those of you not in my squad an hour ago:
Me and incognito kicking *** all over silent eagle, nailed a firebase, a good 20 or so inf, few trucks/humvees, a chinook, a little bird and a tank. We were chasing down an enemy tank, about to get it's flank and then, bam gunner disconnected.

Fortunately my squad leader could man the tank and we kicked *** even harder. With my new gunner we went on to kill 5 tanks about 10 inf + a firebase with one loss on our side total in an engagement against two tanks.

The final AT missile that nailed a tank, won the round at about 150-0. One of the best rounds I've had in a long time.

I totally agree with that Japanese guy. 240 is not a high ping actually.
I am in China. I always play PR in some west coast of US on average ping around 250, there is not any problem. NO lagging, VOIP is loud and clear. So, kicking someone lower than 300 is really unfair.

To me, the ping higher than 300 is not acceptable. So the TacticalGamers always Ban/Kick me.
Always be a medic, never get a special kit, save your *** in no time

With 240ms you are almost a quarter of a second late in everything you do, right?

240 is crazy, I dunno how you find that playable. Anything over 150 is pushing it for me, luckily I don't have to, being near the Chicago servers :D .

I agree with OP.
200+ is not a problem in PR, atleast not server admin's.

IIRC:

1. ping dosnt effect servers so no need to kick
2. isnt bf2 optimised for 100ping ? so 200~ is not bad.

i think ^

has edited his hitbox registration, he actually hits alot more accuratly @ 120 then 16-50. But that's just hitbox, driving vehicles etc can be more tricky at 180 than 20.
