Speed okay on some maps not so okay on others, what is my bottleneck ?
On 0.87 all maps ran fine, except for fools road.
On most maps, like Gaza beach Fallujah west and even Silent eagle and the old maps of course I have very playable FPS rates most of the time.
However on some maps, like Lashkar Valley, fools road and iron ridge some objects cause a noticeable drop in FPS for me.
On Lashkar valley for example on the spawn screen when you see all of the valley I have around 50 FPS.
However if I approach the tall grass near the insurgency main my FPS drops as low as 17 FPS, Texure settings and objects settings does not impact the framerate at all in that specific spot either way, although setting effects on low prevents the FPS from dropping further when I shoot a full mag on the AK.
The bushes on Lashkar valley and the trees cause a similiar drop, but only up close, if I look at them from a distance it is fine. Of course the situation is similiar for the other maps I mentioned.
Buut Fallujah west has tall grass objects that are very similiar to the grass used in Lashkar valley and the grass there causes not such a dramatic drop in FPS.
Now I do not have a beast of a grafic card, it is an onboard HD 3200 780G here are the specs.
Hersteller ATI
Serie Radeon HD 3000
Codename
Pipelines 40 - unified
CPU clock * 500 MHz
Shader clock* 500 MHz
Memory clock * Shared memory, so I guess same as the ram I bought, 800 mhz.
Memory 512 MB
Shared Memory ja
shared memory
DirectX DirectX 10, Shader 4.0
Transistoren 181 Millionen
Herstellungsprozess 55 nm
Features Avivo HD, Hybrid Graphics Technology, PCI-E 2.0, Vari-Bright (Bildschirmhelligkeit automtisch anpassen), HDCP support, Display Cache
I just wondered why my bottleneck is, is it Video ram size ? Cpu clock ?

Onboard Graphics cards (not really cards at all) are pieces of ****. Before I got my 9600, BF2 would not even start on my integrated 6150E. Suggestion is, if you're CPU is at a good clock, and you have decent memory (At least 3 GB), then it should run fine with a decent "real" Gfx.

I was just curious why I get on the same map a drop of 33 FPS and why objects on one map are fine, but very similiar objects on some other map cause this big drop.

Everyone's getting FPS drops as of this patch. I get high fps drops that I didn't get in 0.874 on maps like Fallujah, etc. I guess we'll just wait and hope for a hotfix.Cassius wrote:I was just curious why I get on the same map a drop of 33 FPS and why objects on one map are fine, but very similiar objects on some other map cause this big drop.

PR 0.9 is having some performance problems on certain maps. Usually the GPU is maxed out well before the CPU. My Core2Duo at 2.4 GHz hardly ever goes above 80-90% even when frames drop to about 12 in the worst situation so far. I'm using a GeForce 8800GTS 512 and from what I read the performance won't increase too much with the 9x00 series. Most people I saw that had no issues were using the 200 series from Nvidia. I'm not too familiar with current ATI cards but I think the 4000 series is where most people also see less problems with overall FPS.

I read about the issues on the forums too, however many of the maps mentioned, like Fallujah West and Gaza beach that caused people to shop for trees and a nice rope for the devs run just fine for me, so I got kind of curious.
The main thing that puzzles me is that while setting textures to low increases FPS a bit in most places in the spots that have objects that cause the big drop for me, like some trees and bushes, the min fps does not increase.

some maps are under 60 frames vsync. it must be map bugs and the great view distance. some other maps with even large view distance and statics, much trees dont have this issue.

When your GPU is the at full capacity there are a number of ways it can be bottelnecked. If turning down textures isn't the problem then in this case it is not the texture processing that is the problem. As Spearhead said, there is definitely performance issues in 0.9 that are map specific and these will be fixed in time.Cassius wrote:The main thing that puzzles me is that while setting textures to low increases FPS a bit in most places in the spots that have objects that cause the big drop for me, like some trees and bushes, the min fps does not increase.

I had a weird experience yesterday regarding to performance. First I played Yamalia on a Finninsh server to which I have very low ping, around 10, and game was laggy as hell! My FPS was constantly between 15 and 25. Then a couple of hours later and after shutting down PR in the middle, I played the very same Yamalia map and game mode on an American server to which I have 140-ish ping and there was virtually no lag at all

While .9 does seem to have performance issues, i'd say the problem is the fact that you have an onboard card. These always use shared memory and are generally quite a bit slower than if you just bought the card and stuck it on there.
Also, the HD 3200 is not what I would call a "beast". If I remember correctly, it slightly outperforms an 8500 GT.
I would look to invest into a new card. You can get pretty decent ones for under 100 Euros.

Re: Speed okay on some maps not so okay on others, what is my bottleneck ?
well, i have extreme problems on some maps as well. and my gfx card isn't exactly weak.
setup:
Q6600
4GB RAM (though WinXP 32)
Radeon HD5770 1GB
i play on 1920x1200, that may be a problem. but .8 ran on all high. for .9 i had to go to medium for many maps
. e.g. zooming in with the russian PKM makes me go from 90 to 15 fps
i will report my performance in the appropriate thread once i've completed measurements.

I am sure buying another 5770 and running it all in crossfire will fix your problemGeneral_J0k3r wrote:well, i have extreme problems on some maps as well. and my gfx card isn't exactly weak.

even with gtx275Zodiac some maps are under 60 frames vsynced. map bug. most maps even with long view distance and lots of obejects run fine.
