pr.9 has a "performance tweak" which might be responsible for that

please post your specs

Some things that will help:
Defrag HD run disk check
Add fast USB thumb drive (2-4 gigs) for Vista 'Ready Boost'
Add Ram +2 gigs?
Update video card ( 1 gig video min. $39bucks)
Increase Virtual memory = 1.5 x real ram
If you have an old drive> 6gigs, add it to your system just for your page file (Virtual memory) and nothing else.
Turn down more settings - lighting is a real ram hog
Turn off unneeded background services ( you can use a app like AMD Fusion for Gaming)

Good luck

that I cant and wont say
however lots of people are complaining about dropped overall performance - this might be due to the new content, and ofc larger, more detailed maps - maybe there is also room for optimization in the maps themselves

some more general advices:
clear the bf2 cache
definitly do what thepalerider suggests, he knows what hes talking about!
update your drivers - maybe newer ones work better with pr

Intel E8400 @ 3825MHz
GA-EP45-UD3R-v1.1 MB, 2*1GB 1066MHz HyperX memory
EVGA GTX275 @ 691/1512/1215, driver 196.34
WD2500AAKS System drive
WD10EARS Program, Media and storage drive
WD1001FALS Dedicated Game drive(overkill)
Samsung 906cw 1400x900, Vsync off, HDCP capable.

I just installed PR.09 and went into a game. Here's what I noticed. The bushes bring my FPS down to the high 30's. The bushes look much better than .87, but at a performance cost I don't like!

AAx8 enhanced, AFx8, most all settings highest possible.

With .87 my FPS was always stuck at 120 FPS with above settings, no matter how thick bushes got, or how much fighting was happening around me. First map I entered after the install was Gaza. Everything seemed great, until I met the bushes in the Mosque and my frame rates dipped. They would only drop when I had the bushes in just a small amount of the screen. In .87 I could see across maps and still have 120 FPS. Stepping out on the roof in Gaza, after checking out the bushes, I was getting FPS of about 56. What is up with that?

If I find other things that make my frames drop, I'll post up here!

your specs look good, however i didnt come around to notice you are only having 2 GB RAM?
which OS do you use?

try lowering AA for test purposes please
also there are reports of trouble with "ligting" and "textures" set to "high"

is your hard disk flashing when you are getting the lags? -> ram is not enough

really interresting and good thing to mention which objects are causing it

Windows XP32.
I checked to see how much memory my system was using while in game. My machine is using 1.35GB of memory to play PR. So you know, after boot, my machine uses 125 to 130 MB of memory to stay on! This was because I stripped unneeded services from my XP install(streamlined XP).

I'm going to try some different combinations of settings, I'll let you guys know what comes of it.
