My solution for CTD

Post by manson »

I had multiple crashes to desktop on 0.8 and 0.9 also.

I uninstaled PR and BF2
then I reinstalled bf2 and patch 1.4, reboot, opened the game logged in.
install 1.5, reboot, open the game log in...
installed PR, reboot.. dropped texture to medium (still looks very good) everything else on high including AA.

and I havnt crashed ever again.

if it helps someone...

I think its been pretty much proven that dropping textures to medium is what fixes the CTD's in most cases. So its nice to see it worked for you :)

Pretty sure its a RAM issue most times :)

All I had to do was drop the textures to medium (AA and view distance still on MAX) hadn't had a problem since.

But medium textures is terrible. This is not entirely solve the problem. It is rather a deviation from the problem itself.

Its a fix, maybe not the best, but youre already playing on a 5 year old game so Im assuming graphics arent going to make or break playing the game ;)

This has not fixed mine.. It fixed most of the "Ram" problems I get when loading... But now when IG I crash 5 minutes into it..

Not sure if this helps guys but I have AA switched off for over 2 years now and never had a problem with memory error, CTD or Alt Tab since - due to my res being 1600x1200 with everything on max the game is just sweet......

I do get major FPS probs with Dragon Fly but all other maps are fine....

I don't know about you guys but for me PR 0.9 doesn't work properly.
0.87D was my truly love.
Every time at server the same problem happens about 5 min in game (MD5 mismatch ) and lag issues (mainly in Gaza Beach).
I'm afraid I'll do the reinstall too

All problems the people(and me too) have with NEW MAPS! Old maps, except Falluja, works fine. Is it not strange? This is what I always think, and that haunts me ... Why Muttrah City with a lot of buildings, mountains, roads, fences don't have laggy, but a little Gaza Beach kill my FPS down? I think it is not right.

People do not have the opportunity to leave the game and change the settings for each map separately. I know people who have, and at 6 and 8 GB of RAM may not normally play at Dragon Fly or Gaza to the settings that they like and have never had such problems in 0.87. I am not familiar with the technology close to creating maps in BF2, but it seems a mistake *memory.dll* and a lot of laggs begins to manifest itself if you create a map exceeds a certain limit of textures and objects. And it seems the new maps this limit is slightly exceeded. While the old maps in this respect is quite balanced. But this, of course, only my noobs thinking.
Yet the question of optimization is still all of us very worried.

I did a complete reinstall but still get ocasionally CTD, mostly when loading map. It usually happens when I have played 1 or 2 maps and then loads a big map like iron ridge. But when I join again it works fine. It could be some memory thing cause I can not run dragon fly without getting the memory error.

Anyway I have my full trust in the devs to release a fix.

Am I the only person who doesnt have FPS issues on any map, ever?
Everything is maxed out, and I only have the occasional CTD, but i can usually be back in PR and joining the same server before the countdown has finished...

Yeah, same here. I've only had one CTD, ever. I guess I'm lucky.

Didnt work for me...
I got:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHz
GPU: Palit nVIDIA GeForce 9800GT Super+ 1GB of GDDR3
RAM: 2GB of DDRII(2) Ram @ 400 MHz
In 0.8 it worked for me but now I even put textures to low and everything on medium (althought my GPU can run everything on high!) but I still crash in an average of 1 time every 1.5 round
