Random stutters.

Post by Joshua01 »

Hey guys, I'm getting random stutters during gameplay. I'd like to see if anyone could give advice or answer some of my questions.

My setup:

XP - 32bit
CPU - Intel pentium d 830 (dual core 3.00ghz)
Video card - Geforce 9800gtx
RAM - 2gig ddr2

In game settings:

Resolution - lowest I can
All other settings - lowest/off

My fps is simply not an issue, even with the patch. The stuttering is very annoying however.

I have set my page file at 6000 min and max.

Originally (with higher settings) under task manager I saw the game running at 1,500,000 memory usage.

I've got it down to 800,000 or so, and the stutters have improved ... but not to my satisfaction.

Does anyone know of a patch or fix of some kind which might help? Even if xp 32 bit does not support 4gigs of ram, would it help at all? What about the /3gb switch? Is it really a RAM issue?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I know exactly what you're talking about, I get the same problem with similar specs, only happens on PR.

Windows 7 x64
Geforce 9800 GT 512 mb
Intel Pentium D 940 @ 3.5 gz
4 mb dual-channel RAM

What happens is that your game will completely freezes, no audio, interface, or anything for about 1/2 a second once every 5 seconds, usually for about a minute, and then game runs smoothly; or at least that's what happens to me.

It seems to happen randomly, but most often when i first load in and when i spawn in on different parts of the map.

It's really annoying, especially when flying. one second i'm flying a chinook, then the next thing i know im nosediving into the ground
Maybe it's an issue with Pentium D...?

almost looks like it
does the sound loop on freez?
have you been able to check background tasks though?
use process explorer and try to alt-tab to it and see if there is a process eating up all the ressources

also look at your pcs LEDs is the HDD LED perma-flashing?

make sure your drivers are up-to-date
which anti-vir are u 2 using? (does it help disabling it?) when was your last system scan, did you get a virus?

check this thread too: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... emory.html

hmm, may seem like a far shot, but I had similar problems with other games where the problem turned out to be the game using different processors.
From what I understand, BF2 is not greatly optimized for multiple processors and on some of them, it causes this stutter when it switches from one processor to another.
Try setting your BF2 to work with only one processor.
Start game,
alt tab out,
start task manager,
processes,
right click on your process,
click "set affinity"(i think thats what its called)
uncheck all other processors cept one.
click ok
go back to game

what can also help is if you set the priority of the game higher, its similar as the above, except for "set affinity" you click "set priority". Feel free to set it higher up, but NEVER set it to realtime.
Trust me, don't set it to real time.
This should give the game a higher priority when the CPU distributes processes, meaning that such stutters might be solved.

Lastly, and very unlikely, a friend of mine fixed a problem with stutters by getting a new harddisk. The three harddisks at the same time, where he had the OS on one, the paging file on another, and a game on the third. This means that your OS will do those three accesses on three different harddisks rather than on one.

I have a Core i5, 9800 GT, 4G ram and Windows 7

Similar problems. I've noticed sometime the start of lag coincides with a sound I haven't heard in awhile (enemy rifle, forward outpost deployment noise, etc). I've also noticed if I alt-tab out of the game and back in, the lag is gone.

I'll try some of the things listed in here
