Will it work...?

Post by Wampa Stompa »

Sorry for the noobish "can my PC run this...?" post, and sorry if this is in the wrong section, but i cant seem to find any official system requrements anywhere. the best i can find is "a bit more than BF2" so here is my basic specs(dont' laugh):

AMD Athlon XP 2400 2.4ghz
1024mb DDR RAM (2x 512mb)
Microsoft Windows 7 (build 7600), 32-bit
ATI Radeon 9550 / X1050 Series 319mb RAM

used to run BF2 on med pretty well, i cant seem to run PR.9 on even the lowest settings. will my hardware handle it and there is something else wrong, or is it just a lost cause and wont ever work good? By the way, im not expecting great graphics; id be happy if it ran smooth on lowest settings. Would adding another 1/2 GB of (faster) RAM help much? or should i start saving my money?

PR needs a lot more than Bf2 and espacially 0.9 eats hardware like a turkey sandwich. I dont think u will be able to run it, but Im not 100% sure

I would say install xp and it will work :-P . You didn´t play .85 right? The current pc i´m playing Pr with is not better than urs. Cannot post my specs now though. Trust me on the Windows shit though. Win 7 will suck alot power.

i highly doubt your ram and GFX will cut it.

my startup specs were nearly the same, i put in some more ram (4GB dual channel - that made about +2-5 fps) got XP64 and bought the 2.4GHz AMD 64 4000+ (+1-2 fps, strongest which fits the socket) and a GeForce 9600 GT from 7900GTX (+8 fps) but all in all the cpu hits its limits and together with the mobo i could play some maps in .87 and other like falluja were just plain fps horror - although set to medium and 1920x1200 (i had to - its a tft i don't want it to be all blurry) fps were around 18-25 thats almost not playable anymore

summary: GFX upgrade brought the most, ram a little (got rid of some stuttering due to texture/geometry loading) and CPU near to none
strange enough i read in this forums about people having almost the same stuff and they had good fps - however those had some kind of dual core processor

i have not had the chance to check .9 yet but i dont think its going to be better if you know what i mean
the cpu just plain can't handle it and the mobo wont let you put good stuff on it either

so basically i did what you are trying to do and did not succeed (check my forum profile to see my specs)
ill get a new rig in mid-march

this site helps me alot: PassMark Software - Video Card Benchmark Charts
there are cpu, gpu and other benchmarks - this one also told me that your gfx card has 50-100 points (mine 930) has so i'd say upgrade that one

but upgrading your system will be very expencive because the parts you can combine are not produced anymore and are so old they are rare - thus expensive altough they are crappy and cant keep up with current tech standards

You´re wrong. I played PR until .85 with 1 Gb Ram and a geforce 6800...

Updated my ram now though and I would suggest that to you as well Wampa.

Prerender frame can help(Nvidia control panel has the option) when set on 2-3.

Just saying that it´s not as unlikely as it seems to some people. There were enough playerys saying .8 was impossible with anything under 2 gigs of ram.
And that just ain´t the case.

I´m well aware that .9 has different requirements than .85

Well I´m not sure if that´s the case for the Bf2 engine but on the earlier Bf versions especially vietnam it always ran with the cpu at almost 100 percent.

As far as I known that was intended to reserve the cpu for the game. Did you check the cpu capacity in the earlier versions of PR?
