Constantly kicked out of the game.

Post by HeavyAxe »

Note: there exists a somewhat similar threat, but it describes only half the problem I have and the author has apperently abandonned it.

So here is my problem:
I can start the game, I can host games, I can join games, I can play.
At least for a while because after some time the game crashes and I find my self back on my desktop, since PR 0.909 with no errormessage what so ever. With PR 0.87 the typical vista window "Project Reality 0.87 funktioniert nicht mehr." (meaning 'PR 0.87 screwed itself') popped up. Now, not only am I constantly thrown out of the game in the middle of a match (or usualy more towards the end of it) but also almost EVERY time I click 'Disconnect' or when the server is loading a new map.
Needless to say, this is highly frustrating, even more since I happen to be addicted to your mod ;-)

I allready tried reinstalling BF 2, and Project Reality.

I play it on a notebook, maybe that has something to do with it? Each installer took allready 30 minutes to START the installation, so there might be some incompatibilities there : /
It's an HP Pavilion dv5
Intel centrino 2 duo 2,27 Ghz
Nvidia Gefroce 9600 GT
3 GB RAM
Windows Vista (32 Bit version)
More than enough free space on my hard drive.
Vanilla and Mod run perfectly with the highest resolution and graphics. Usualy, no lags or anything. No such problems with the vanilla version either.
I run the game 'as an administrator' because it did crash instantly otherwise.
The Notebook has a widescreen display, I also tried a normal monitor, but it didn't solve the problem.

It cannot be a connection problem because it happens in solo matches aswell.

Propably my RAM isn't given free when unused? I had a similar problem with Gothic 3, but then I usually got a message saying that the demanded RAM couldn't be provided.
Anyways, I'll try running the thing with lower resolution and graphics. I'll keep you updated. I'll try more hard drive space for externalizing aswell.

If you have any other ideas or questions, please let me know.
Best wishes,
and please excuse my poor english ... ^^

*Edit*
The 64 players version of the map Ramiel in coop (didn't play that one online yet) crashes every time as soon has it starts "verifying client data".

run pr in windowed mode (append "+fullscreen 0" to your shortcut's target line) to get an error message, google it, post it here

run it in compatiblity mode XP SP3

update your gfx drivers

disable the windows themes / turn down effects (aero etc. to free some ram)

i think installers should be run as admin as well

Awsome.

It weren't the configurations. Windowmode didn't help either.
The installers had not to be run as admin (eventhough that might solve the Ramiel issue (haven't testet that, yet)).

I did the whole rest at once:
More Ram, Disabling windows themes (which saved me about 1 GB of RAM!), gfx drivers and compatibility mode for XP. I don't know which of these worked in particular but dare I change anything now :D

I am happy,
thank you very much.
