PR--- stop complaining

Post by ghoststorm11 »

Hey guys,

Let me start by saying that I am not going to quote anyone or be harsh towards any one person.

During the last few weeks, people on this forum have kind of ruffled my feathers a little bit. To me, it seems like people are always attacking the DEVs. I dont know how the DEVs handle the constant criticism.

Anyway. I want to tell all of you people of there. STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT THE MOD. Its free. The DEVs are doing the best they can with limited resources. Lets not forget, the DEVs do have lives outside of developing PR. We, the community, should be thanking these men and women for the hours or work they do for free for us, the community. If you want something changed. Do a little research, do a a little work, and then give the DEVs your idea and supporting work. DONT Complain about how something is overpowered, or the maps arent big enough, or your favorite gun/vehicle/Airplane is not ingame. If you dont have the time to develop these things yourself, then either PAY someone to do it for you, or just enjoy the mod.

So, as a community, we should be thanking (if not praising) the DEVs for the work they do. And not just the Game developers, but the HR people and the moderators of this forum. We should also remember to thank the men and women who inspire this game. Lastly, I want to personally thank the PR for making this amazing mod with limited resources and time. You have done a great job, and I cant wait to see what you guys have next.

As an addendum: PR is a community, not just a bunch of developers. Many people contribute to this game, and if you want something, make it happen. The difference between PR and most other games is that the devs really do care, and they want to put great ideas into practice. If you want a new toy, a different game mode, some more maps, or just a little tweak in the game play, go out and create it. That's the difference between the power of a community, and the power of some random publishing company.

Anyone who attacks the devs is a moron, but anyone who doesn't point out flaws in PR out of fear of attacking the devs is an even bigger moron.

I don't think the devs take much notice of the suggestions and criticisms anyway, so it's not like they shed tears every time someone takes a snipe at deviation.

They do do a great job on the whole though.

I agree that we should thank the DEVs more, but just because the mod is free doesn't mean we shouldn't criticize it and offer suggestions. After all, that's how progress is made, and that's even how Project Reality began (a criticism of vBF2 gameplay).

Well said. To the OP, don't be too offended by this, but it sounds as if you are trying to "suck up," at least to me.

Posts that slate people's work in a rude and inconsiderate fashion can negatively impact on a team member's motivation to do the work necessary to improve and expand the mod. A lot of it all comes down to how things are worded, no one expects you to like everything the team creates but there's a huge difference between saying "I don't think it works because... maybe you could try..." i.e. constructive criticism, with a point to back it up and mindless slating such as "that map/model/gamemode etc sucks, omg I can't believe you did that you've ruined the game".

Sure, a lot of people will experience strong negative emotions when playing, I certainly do when I'm trying to play and something frustrates me. But before making a forum post about it you should take some time to fully consider what you're trying to say and think about how you can make it into a constructive post. Posting a chunk of negative emotion with no constructive substance will certainly not help the team improve on whatever it is you're moaning about and the fact that you are just moaning will probably mean you just get ignored/have the thread closed anyway...

Some people are excellent at taking this into account and do us a great service in the posts they make. They are the positive element of the community which can help us improve on what we do. We really appreciate you guys for taking the time to provide us with something constructive

I think criticism is good, its just the people who dont understand the meaning of criticism thats complaining about people who do criticism because they think its something negative. Its the same kind of people who can't take criticism toward themselfs, they are just not mature enough to understand what it is. But also people who do criticism should be aware about the purpose of criticism. You have to take in consideration, with love comes hate  . People love something and people are afraid of changes, and when something they love changes emotions starts building up. Just like real life. Its all about loooooooooooooooove, PR is loooooooooooooooooooooooove. You have to understand that whenever emotions are involved, love is involved. And whenever theres alot of emotions around one thing it often means its something intresting about this thing. Damn ive should been a poet.

I'll tell you right now there are post I look at, post I dont look at and post that go into the hall of shame. The title tells me allot and the first sentence tells me allot.
But over all we also know that complainers complain and players play.
We watch the fourms and we know who the players are and also who the whiny, cannot adapt, non team player rambo ******* are. Most of those we trust end up on the testers team because we trust there options.

This is just like AA3... people complain and complain and complain for a free game (free meaning, if the Government didn't waste tax money in it, they would be using somewhere else, as in, you would still pay what you were).

I just hope that, if PR2 DOES come out, the DEVs and MODs DO adapt to the world of paid games.

Why the complaint?
Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! :D

You mean totally ignoring the community and making auto sniper rifles just to sell a buck? Not sure if I can do that. Who wants fast ropes? That will be part of a paid DLC but not until you unlock master sniper.

Thanks for the thread. It's no doubt appreciated by the large team who collectively put thousands of man hours into each major release.

Crit threads pop up after every major release. We're on our 14th release, and our 9th 'major' release. We are well used to the initial feedback and is the reason why various forums go on lockdown prior to these. Considered feedback, instead of kneejerk feedback.

We have no dramas with constructive, well thought out critism. We do take issue with undeveloped critism. We're a group of volunteers, and while various other studios are paid big bucks to take it and just head blindly towards the direction the shareholders point them, we will always listen, even if it isn't obvious. If a suggestion, thread or post has a point, one of us will put it to the team.
