Re: Crashing when loading certain maps
please be more descriptive as of when the problem occurs and what you have done, did it work before, what things have you already tried?
might be a corrupt file, ram problem, driver problem or punkbuster problem
try in that order:
manually update punkbuster
get newest gfx drivers
increase pagefile size
reinstall pr/bf2
to get an error message run pr in windowed mode (append "+fullscreen 0" to your shortcut's target line)

'[R-COM wrote:thepalerider;1261835']When looking for answers please follow these simple steps.
#1 : Read the red stickys First.
New PR problems are rare so most answers can be found here.
The #2 red sticky is: "Read This If You Have Pr.exe problems"
Have you read it?
#2. Use the search feature on PRs web site or GOOGLE IT!. Often the quickest way to find what your looking for when you have an error message.
#3. Please remember to include your basic PC info in your post
You have spent some time trying to help yourself, but your ready to ask for help:
Please include your basic PC info in your post :
Operating system = XP, Vista etc.
systems specks = cpu/speed, ram installed, video card/video ram on card, type of monitor
network setup = cable, 4 port 10/100/1000 d- link gamers lounge/ wired connection.
And a brief history before and after problem started.
Please describe when your CTD or problem hits and
what you have already tried.
The more info you can give the better your chance of getting a quick answer back.
You don't have to write a book,
but your basic PC info is needed to help you.
Good luck

Re: Crashing when loading certain maps
When the server changes map in co-op, sometimes while in the loading screen, Project Reality exits back to desktop for me. All my drivers are updated. I'll reinstall the PR and see what happens. Thanks.SnipingCoward wrote:please be more descriptive as of when the problem occurs and what you have done, did it work before, what things have you already tried?

EDIT: What do you mean pagefile size? Not sure what that is.

Re: Crashing when loading certain maps
Yeah, I have the same problem. Only seems to happen with maps that are being used in co-op. I've uninstalled and re-installed PR, updated PunkBuster, updated drivers, pretty much everything.
I'll try one more time to see what kind of error I get.
I don't seem to get an error, even when I run it in windowed mode. It just crashes and returns me to the desktop.

So I shouldn't reinstall the game?Sheephead wrote:Yeah, I have the same problem. Only seems to happen with maps that are being used in co-op. I've uninstalled and re-installed PR, updated PunkBuster, updated drivers, pretty much everything.

Well you could try, but I don't think it will work. I have one question: Have you played vanilla BF2 recently?

more things to try:
run pr as administrator
run pr in xp sp3 compatibility mode
make sure windows is up-to-date
page file is a virtual extension of RAM - it increases your ram virtually by dedicating free space on your harddrive

Q: I am crashing to desktop when loading/changing levels.
Q: I am getting a lot of lag on levels.
A: The most common cause of this is that you are running out of memory (though there are other causes). BF2 was a memory intensive game, and PR only increases on that.
First, you can try lowering your video settings, in particular, Textures.
If that doesn't help or fix your issue, you can try increasing your virtual memory.

Re: Crashing when loading certain maps
This is the first time I have a problem with PR, untill now I could run it without any problems. I also don't think that a lack of RAM is the problem, since I have 4 gb of RAM.

I tried changing to medium but at 14% load of the map, I froze and exited to desktop again.SnipingCoward wrote:more things to try:

I'm in system information and it says I have a total virtual memory of 6.73 and 5.53 GB of it is available.

Re: Crashing when loading certain maps
6GB virtual memory should suffice, however looking at the ram when the game crashed will only show you howmuch your system is using - all ram used by the game is freed the instant it got terminated
to see your ram usage when running bf2/pr you should alt-tab when ingame and habe a look
i have suggested alot more than you replied to - did you try all that other stuff already? admin, compat, gfx driver update?
you didn't post your specs either yet
i have no more ideas at this level of information

Re: Crashing when loading certain maps
Ah, everything seems to be working fine now.
I uninstalled PR once again, and rebooted my PC. Then I installed and played it, and up to now everything now works fine.
