I'm no expert, but I've played a while now.
I've found some of my best games have me only getting 4 kills, but dying none, or just once. Pick your engagements, for one, and definitely stay with your squad. If you try to bounce off by yourself you'll come around a corner of a squad staying together and your hopes are over.
A lot of my best engagements have come battling it out in urban settings in buildings. Call of Duty is much easier to hit a target and kill a target (minus 3,000 shots). You are 100% positive when you hit someone in CoD, PR not so much. Also, obviously CoD setup is geared more towards one-on-one engagements, where I think PR is more geared towards squad engagements that can also include light vehicle support, so you can get into some tight situations where you're merely fodder for the machine gunner on the .50 cal who is taking out the other squad, while you lay down the supression fire.

If you're going infantry (which you should for the first week or so as a new PR player) then these are some of the golden rules.Meza82 wrote: join a squad, stick with squad, follow squad leader's orders and markers; if there are no orders or markers then ask squad leader for some.
also: stick with rifleman kit for a while (10 hours of play).
I will respect anyone who denies the ability to take a limited kit and sticks with rifleman, these are the people who will be watching your 6 and will be the ones that you fall back on as a squad leader. Stick with the limited kits and infantry tactics as much as you can before you want to specialize in something (armor, helicopters, jets and so forth)
You'll find that being a grunt in a good squad is one of the funnest things you can do in PR.

Re: Some tips for a PR newbie?
I think most veteran players here have experienced the "i always get shot and i never know where it came from" phase when they started playing. The only thing you can do now is follow some of these guides that people have been posting, they are excellent resources. Here is my input, when you are in a PR firefight, the thing to remember is that the one who fires first usually wins, SO, you should not only be worried about aiming, but also about your position at all times. Try to guess what the enemy will likely do, if you're right you will have upper hand (this won't be easy at first, of course!). You should also move around the map in concealed areas and the enemies' blind spots. Hit them from the side or back if you can, and when you attack, make sure you get them in one or two shots for sure, take your time. Hope that helps!

Random Tips:
Use your mic to communicate targets with the compass, and audio ques ( footsteps, engines )
Don't pronedive then immediately fire
Be descriptive in spotting enemies ( Hes between 240 and southwest, high on the ridgeline )
Don't give up until the medic can revive
HOLD SPAWN if you don't have orders from SL, some maps like silent eagle can be a 3,000m walk from the wrong spawn
If you have ironsights, ALWAYS use them in CQB it helps so much.
CROUCH when firing in the open, or when you don't have to stand over cover.
Use concealment and cover to your advantage
Flank often, but don't get spotted on the flank
Remember sprinting/como rose voice comms give your position away to enemy infantry
Sometimes its better to let a bigger asset take out a threat ( Instead of chasing the tank with RPGs, let your SL call in CAS to blow it up )
Repair vehicles when they are damaged
GO TO THE RIGHT FLAGS, DONT OVER ADVANCE
Use enemy kits when desperate for field dressings
Dont fly if you can't
Communicate to your driver/gunner in vehicles often - when tanking you can retreat while reloading a round
Learn the sounds of enemy guns and vehicles, this can be a lifesaver
Check the map for friendlies if unsure of what you are shooting at, over time it will be easier to ID targets based on color/helmets - though in insurgency it is best to ID targets based on torsos rather than helmets due to people using enemy kits
Be alert, and don't camp in open terrain or low areas, remember anywhere you can see, the enemy can see you. So make sure to "camp" or set up and defend areas where you are protected from multiple angles
Shooting:
I count down before I shoot when engaging targets that don't see me, if I have ducked prone behind cover then went to crouched I count to four then shoot.
As rifleman I recommend using ironsights in urban maps, you can keep them up whenever you are slowly moving into a building or around corners - super effective.
With acogs and other scoped rifleman rifles I tend to wait 1.5 - 2s between single shots, also remember deviation in project reality is effected by movement and then it "settles"
1 second of movment = 1/5 of a second of "time to settle" after you stand still
So if you move for 5 seconds, you must wait a full second before you are fully "accurate"
Its my opinion that firing also effects the "Settle time" for a perfect shot, so if you have been moving often and then fire off shots every half second YOU WILL MISS A LOT.
The situation
An enemy has spotted you as you are crossing the street and has dived prone:
You have a few choices
A. Dive prone as well and return fire, this will most likely get you shot and or killed due to deviation taking a few seconds ( 4.4? ) to settle
B. Run back to whence you came, depending on how far into the street
C. Crouch and fire off single shots in rapid sucession ( .5 seconds )
or my personal choice D. Crouch and fire off a single shot after a second, and fire maybe one more to kill the enemy.
Hopefully some of this info helps, random tips I could come up with off the top of my head that helps me...
