New HDMI problem

Post by CaptainKilla »

Ok, before I hooked up my HDMI cable to my new 32 1080p LCD, my POS 20" worked fine with the DIVX connection. I have the GTX 295 with 8GB memory, AMD Phenom x4 9650 Quad Core, 750 GB Hard Drive (like that really matters), Windows Vista 64 bit. I have been able to play before without any problems. As soon as I installed the new monitor it stopped working. I thought that it was because I haven't downloaded V 9 but I couldn't even play regular BF2. Does BF2 not work in 1080P? If not am I supposed to reset my computer and try after altering the resolution? Any help would be appreciated. TV is VIZIO VOJ320F1A if that matters any.

maybe a refresh rate prolem - in video.con change the resolution line to "800x600@60Hz" or what ever you are sure the monitor supports

if all fails maybe a corrupt config file - clear bf2 profile using BF2Cleaner or deleting "My Documents\Battlefield 2" (it will get recreated with defaults once bf2 starts)

I just downloaded the new version 9 and it didn't work either. Also, I still can't play the stock version. I believe that it has something to do with my hardware acceleration settings, but it wont let me adjust it like on my other monitor. I don't believe that I will be able to play with this 32 LCD. Damn it!!! PS. I did adjust it to the lowest setting of 800x600 @ 60hz.

did you patch bf2 with 1.41 and 1.5 yet?

looking at your TV's specs 800x600@60Hz is supported

how exactly do you connect to your TV? (DVI to HDMI cable? HDMI to HDMI cable?)
do you have it connected additionally or did it completely replaced your old monitor?

if you are using 2 monitors you should go into extended desktop mode, not clone mode (hit Win-key + P to toggle)

did you try the profiles deletion yet?

Reason: forgot the 60Hz

Answer to to patching, I system restored my computer and was able to get my old viewsonic to work. I tried the HDTV and it didn't.

I originally had the HDMI hooked up. I read somewhere that I was supposed to have it hooked up to the DVI connection if I wanted to use it as my primary. I then got a HDMI to DVI cord and that didn't work either. I am about to try the DVI to Serial port(not sure of the correct term. Old connection to monitors.) to see if that works. This would defeat the whole purpose of getting a good picture. Wont that bottle neck the connection?

I am not trying to use two computers just the Vizio as my primary. I use it for my TV and computer monitor and PR is the only computer game I play. Any other suggestions are appreciated. I do believe that it is a hardware issue and not a software issue since the old monitor works fine.

Also, it seems that it attempts to get the hardware acceleration to kick in, but that is when the game fails.

OK, I was able to load BF2 with the new cord (HDMI to DVI). I had to reset the computer after I changed the resolution to 800 x 600. That enabled me to load BF2. I then changed the video settings to the HD settings whatever that is. I then restarted my computer again, and loaded BF2 and it worked. I am downloading version 9 of PR right now and will keep you guys posted if it works. By the way, it was awsome to see it on the huge screen.

i am glad its working for you now, dont forget to set bf2/pr and your desktop resolution to the native resolution (1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz) as this will give you the sharpes/clearest image

note that a HDMI has an audio and a video stream capability - however DVI only supports video - therefore your DVI-HDMI cable is somewhat crippled - there are also HDMI-DVI adapters available incase you later want to use it to bring sound to the TV as well this might be a better solution (this fact can become extremely frustrating when roughcasting a wall with the cable underneath and later on trying to view a DVD via the PC and figuring there is no sound)

fyi: that "serial" you mentioned is most likely simply refered to as "VGA"

Those Tv's do not usually have a 60HZ refresh rate at 1080P. i know because i own that TV. it runs at 30HZ. But bf2 won't do that.
