Hope everyone is doing fine. I don't mean to be "that guy", but I recently come across PR and liek a lot of others hopefully have found just what I'm looking for in a tactial shooter. Theres a few issues I've come across and I thought it would be good to get them off my chest and geta little feedback from some of the veterans that kick around here. So cheers for any feedback, I really appreciate it.
First off I've recently just gone back to PC gaming, it's been an extremely long time but I'm able to say that the reasons I left were the same as a lot of people that defend the consoles market. It is a great feeling though to have a good desktop at your disposal, and in the last month or two I've been catching up on lost time.
So after going through a few great titles in the last few months I decided to look into the shooter genre which I've never really played on the PC before. There's several reasons for this, but one that has confirmed itself over the last week of owning BF2, is the fact that jumping into FPS on the PC is damn hard when yor not used to the mouse and key. I know all the arguments about how much better it is, and I've always believed it, but as I'm sure most of you might remember a long time ago, I definitely loose the jump on guys when I mash around on the keyboard! That aside I'm willing the push through it becasue I believe it is a superior way to enjoy this genre of game.
So with all that being said, the reason I'm here is becuase I came across PR from a few forums talking about great team tactical shooters, and became immeditely interested. Obviously I'm still very new to battlefield, and jumping right over to PR might be a leap, but honeslty I've played BF2 a fair bit in the last week and it drives me crazy. Aside from a "one off" game it's no different than a console game where no one talks to one another, plus a bunch of guys jumping up and down all over the map ( I loose all respect when people jump and shhot, jump and launch grenades, this seems to be common place on the PC?). This is why I want to get right into PR. I have had some issues though with running it. I had no problem loading BF2, and ptaching 1.41, then 1.50, but after installing PR and it not running due to a PR.exe error I've had second thoughts. It also seems to kill being able to play BF2 when the PR mod is istalled even though it doesn't work, which might be regular but extremely frustrating at the same time. I'll work though this and hopefully figure why it's not running, but I just wnted to say Hi and thanks for all the info and posts on the forums. The people here are why games and mods like this are able to keep people on the servers.
Cheers.

Re: PR Beginner Introduction
PR should run without effecting bf2 in anyway. As for PR.exe error try some of these:

Maybe your downloaded file is corrupt? Certainly not what you want to hear since it's a 3GB+ download. Perhaps uninstall BF2 and PR, and reinstall both and patch BF2 to 1.50. Not sure.
Hope you get it working though and welcome.

Add me to your XFire and I will help you get PR up and running. Some of our clan members had issues installing PR and getting it to work properly (myself included). So far we solved all issues *crosses fingers*.

Re: PR Beginner Introduction
No worries, as you said, the community is nice in PR.
Once you do get it up and running, recommend getting in contact with someone experienced who can run a squad and you will pick things up in no time. If you try the game on your own, it can be quite confusing and you will be missing the major fun - teamwork. I know plenty of people who have tried PR on their own, said it was confusing as hell and then the next night they found a good squad and they were practically jumping up and down telling everyone about the fun they had.
We just had a awesome round on a map called Qwai (I love that it's been kept around all through the PR versions), there's two bridges and a waterpassage on that map. We held one bridge all through the round, it had no flags nearby so the only value was the fact it had a bridge. We killed 10+ vehicles trying to cross and made a good difference on holding a non-flag strategic position. Sometimes, to help win a map can be about denying access to the enemy team.
Good luck and welcome to PR.

that's what happened to my friend too he had a corrupted file so I think you might need to reinstall i suggest using file planet
it might be hard getting into PR especially without training servers(although they are coming back) if you find a good squad you will think this game is incredibly awesome

Use the torrents its 100% legal and you can check if the files you downloaded first is corrupted as the torrent will fix the files for you in matter of minutes. Torrent is legal
BF2 is 4-5 years old all teh good gamers have moved on to COD4 and so on. So you will not find alot of teamwork and good players in vBF2 anymore FYI.

I found this sentence quite funny and since this is a war game forum I will put it here. No offense to the french just a good laugh.
"Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordion. All you do is leave behind a lot of noisy baggage."

Re: PR Beginner Introduction
Immedietly got thing's up and running last night, it was the "run as admin issue" for Win 7. So thanks for the help there.
I did get into a few games, multiplayer and co-op. I'll get ahold of a few of you over Xfire and hopefully be able to pick up a few of the nuances, as it's pretty overwhelming at first. Small thing's like spawning issues can become frustrating just because of my lack of knowledge. I was part of one great game, but still a lot of thing's go over my head and I found myself just trying to not get in the way of people who knew what they were doing!
The next few weeks are tough since I'm in the middle of a move, but I appreciate all the offers and I'm sure I'll see some of you around.
Late.

Glad to hear you solved the problem. The "Run As Admin" got me the first time around too.
Good luck with the move, and see you on the battlefield.
