I've always had this problem but i didn't feel i need to fix it till now.
both the machines (vista and a xp) i've got don't allow the mic to work, i've got voip enabled, it just doesn't capture the sound.
then when i looked up the sound options in conrol pannel it says unavalible.
does a mic need a compatible sound card to work or is it a software issue?

Re: Mics not working with voip or mumble
we need more information
post your specs plz
depends on your mic and on your soundcard
if onboard sound it depends on the motherboard then
does mic work in other programs?
- if not make sure the mute switch on the cable is not active
- make sure its plugged in correctly (honestly, do it!)
is the sound card which the mic is connected to the default "audio recording device"?
make sure in Recording Devices its not muted
get up-to-date drivers for your sound chip
