Airlifting Vehicles

Post by M_Striker »

YouTube - Georgian Conflict .2 Trailer

At 3:42 you see helicopters airlifting vehicles and then dropping them. Are those drivable? I just want someone who has better knowledge of the BF2 engine to enlighten me.

Imagine Chinooks airlifting HUMVEES and Land Rovers... :D

They could've done it the way Sandbox has done it, where you can spawn and pick up objects and drop them anywhere as well. I'd imagine there are many possibilities with that code, but very high chances of abuse too.

Or maybe they used something different, idk.

Same sort of dynamic object attachement thing that was on the blogs a while back / the same method afaik. Just tends to be incredibly unreliable and a waste of server resources. It would add very little to PR and the potential for abuse is enormous.

BF2 can't handle the collision between a vehicle and a fence without things going wrong you'll probably find the result is similar there with the object prone to flipping or being launched through the air. Yes it can be done but is it reliable and user friendly, not a chance.

It might be connected like a bomb, so when you click the fire button, the tank disappears on the model and spawns there.

I think the battleship mod had something like that, with a ship spawning planes. Does work.

That's pretty cool, but it looks like the tank is floating

I downloaded this mod the first time i saw this video, just to try this out. BUT, no matter what i tried i could NOT get this to work.
I dont know if this i just a fancy PR stunt (pun intended) or if it actually works in game... But maybe the devs should have a chat with Georgian mod guys?

Unless you make a drivable supply crate I don't see that happening.

I loled at russian uniform models and soldiers are MEC models

I would hate this mod to go to waste but who is going to play a mod that does not include any thing new except new models and a few new units?

I would very much like to see this.

Very. Very. Much.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Airlifting vehicles? You'd have to look really hard into this, cause I'll quit playing this game on the spot if I see a Huey externalng an LAV. If I see the Huey externaling anything at that matter. I'm a Marine and work on MV-22s right next to a Huey and Cobra squadron, and the external hoist have been removed from the Hueys.
