I don't know much about plugs and cables but are those the cables that usually are on the screen or do I need to buy one

please post model and brand of the devices you are trying to link

also when trying to connect a keyboard: old mice and keyboards use PS2 - but new laptops dont have those or just one PS2 port - you will need a PS2 -> USB converter in that case (Google)

old monitors use VGA new notebooks only have DVI - theres an adapter for that too: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=vga+to+d ... 86098c281a

(make sure to have them the right way around - e.g. you dont need a DVI to VGA adapter - thats a different one)

I have a mouse and keyboard plugged in on USB. I have a HDMI 24" moniter plugged in via the HDMI port, but I had to update my VGA driver to get the HDMI sound to go through the HDMI port as my moniter is a TV one too with decent speakers.
Asus 24T1E.
I use the portable screen to watch mumble.
