Crash on loading new maps and others

Post by Reaper1123 »

First,

I am sure this have been posted many times, and by many people, So I am sorry, and please dont get upset.

Second,

My spelling isnt the greatest, nor is my typing.

The issue,

I will see the list of servers and attempt to join a new game. it will start to load and about 3/4 the way loaded it will crash.

But this is only on some maps, not all. For exaple, theres a 24/7 Muttrah(spelling?) City and that map will load fine, so will that big desert one with the bunkers in the middle. But I loted several including Silent eagle, will crash.

I also get crashes when changing maps. It will crash to desktop with no errors, just simply close the game and say that its stopped workin.

Specs,

Vista Ultimate SP2 32b
Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz
4 Gigs of ram

DX 11
Nvidia GeForce 8500GT 512Mb

Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Auido 5.1

Any help, links would be greatly apprichiated :D

Please and Thanks

When looking for answers please follow these simple steps.

#1 : Read the red stickys First.
New PR problems are rare so most answers can be found here.

#2. Use the search feature on PRs web site or GOOGLE IT!. Often the quickest way to find what your looking for when you have an error message.

Some things you can try for CTD on map load:
'[R-DEV wrote:AncientMan;913997']The most common cause of this is that you are running out of memory.
BF2 was a memory intensive game, and PR only increases on that.

First, you can try lowering your video settings, in particular, Textures. If that doesn't help or fix your issue,
you can try increasing your virtual memory. Information on how to do this is located in the red stickys.
See Help Guide for Lag / Stuttering caused by memory

A few have posted doing the "largeaddressaware fix" anyway helped them. A 'fixed' (onlocked bf2.exe) has been posted for those who don't want to do it themselves.
Also turning down lighting and/or shadow detail can help in loading the large maps.
Check out BF2 tweaking guides to learn more.
Defrag your hard drive and keep 15 to 20% free on your system drive.
Consider getting a fast USB thumb drive(flash) to take advantage of Vista 'ready boost' (2-4 gigs is good)
Good luck

your right, i've seen at least 3, i don't remember the exact solution but:

those settings are used prevent ctds:
- gfx: set "textrues" to "medium"
- gfx: set "lighting" to "medium"
- audio: set sound device to "Hardware" (not XFI!)
- audio: set "quality" to "High"

- update gfx drivers fixes some problems too

@pale: afaik the largeaddressaware fix is depricated and causes MD5 mismatch kicks
