Next thing you should do is organize the assets by priority and availability.ComradeChaos wrote: Iranian Design Plan
If the faction is to replace MEC you may as well keep most of the existing assets which Iran uses, at least as place holders until you complete the high priority stuff.
- Assault rifles: The S.556 looks virtually identical to the M16A2, which wouldn't distinguish the faction much from the US Marines infantry-wise. The G3 would be fine until the KH 2002 is done.
- Specialist weapons: Most are already available in PR, It's also worth doing a thorough search just in case others are possibly being worked on by other teams.
The heavy AT M47 Dragon/Saeghe 2 and sniper rifle Steyr HS .50 likely will need to be made from scratch at some point, but current MEC placeholders should suffice.
- Attack Helicopter: You should be able to acquire and reskin USI's Cobra for the Panha 2091.

- Light & Heavy Lift Helicopters: The Panha Shabaviz 2061 you list is actually a reverse engineered Bell 206 JetRanger, the Hueys Iran apparently operate are Bell 214 Twin Hueys they purchased before the 1979 revolution.
Bell 214 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Panha Shabaviz 2061 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Regardless, both the Twin Huey and the Chinook can be easily re-skinned from existing PR assets.
- MBT and Light APC: Both the T-72 and BTR-60 can be kept from MEC as they are in Iranian service.
- Heavy APC: Iran apparently operates around 400 BMP-2's which you could reskin from USI:

BMP-2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The BMP-3 on the other hand apparently isn't operated by the Iranians.
- Jeeps: I can't gather any info about Iran possibly using MEC's current BRDMs or UAZs, so the Rakhsh and/or Takavar probably will need to be made.
- Logi Truck: Most PR factions don't even have their own specific truck so even if Iran uses a different type of truck IRL than it's probably not a priority to replace.
Overall I think presentation aspects like player skins and Persian voices are more important than replacing a few MEC assets. Those tasks should also be in the design plan as they are what is going to really identify the faction as Iranian.

That is very helpful and I do agree with you on many of the vehicles suggestions you have made. Thank you.
I will add the Weapons and the vehicles sometime today, stay posted.

Re: Looking for mod team: New OpFor faction - Iran
Could we possibly reskin the T-72 with ERA and call it a Safir 74?
We'll need our "inside Iranian" for a few things like camo because I really want to see their uniform other than woodland.

Despite Wikipedia's inherit level of reliability, these 2 pages should at least be a guide of what assets can be kept from MEC and those that need be acquired otherwise:
- Army: Equipment of the Iranian Army - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- Air Force: List of aircraft of the Iranian Air Force - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For starters it appears Hueys and Chinooks are far more common in Iranian service than Mi-17s.

Can't think of any reason why not, even without the ERA added it'd be sufficient for a first release IMO.ComradeChaos wrote:Could we possibly reskin the T-72 with ERA and call it a Safir 74?

Why do the field dressings need a re-skin? Different flag or something?

Sub-factions should be a low-priority IMO.ComradeChaos wrote:For the map I'm drawing up, we'll need this marine camo(the men in the left): http://www.mehrnews.com/mehr_media/imag ... 9_orig.jpg
Regarding maps, PR has 3 MEC maps now:
- Kashan Desert (name of an Iranian desert)
- Jabal Al Burj (name of a place in Jordan)
- Muttrah City (located in Oman, other side of the gulf)
If this Iranian faction is to replace MEC then there's enough enough maps to not have to focus on creating more. Instead of focusing on the aspects which would make MEC Iranian.
There is a clear benefit in MEC being generic because it could fight in any location in the middle east. However PR is not restricted to a particular war scenario and we have Russia invading Beirut, so it's not too far fetched for Iran to fight across the region.

Wasn't quite thinking of a subfaction, but now that you mention it, it sounds like one. BTW, we aren't replacing the MEC.Snazz wrote:Sub-factions should be a low-priority IMO.

This "Chocolate Chip" Camo is what I prefer then. Gotta see what Koroush says.Snazz wrote:Despite Wikipedia's inherit level of reliability, these 2 pages should at least be a guide of what assets can be kept from MEC and those that need be acquired otherwise:

Yes, the MEC ones are Arabic I believe, the Iranian ones would have to be farsi.Sniper_dog14 wrote:Why do the field dressings need a re-skin? Different flag or something?

Re: Looking for mod team: New OpFor faction - Iran
I've read on alot of Iran Military forums that the Iranian army uses a pattern similar to OLD US army desert BDU. Now the US uses the digi camo, and Iran stuck with the old desert pattern.ComradeChaos wrote:This "Chocolate Chip" Camo is what I prefer then. Gotta see what Koroush says.
I agree it does look good.
PS: We need A/some mappers for our basic team to be complete so we can start our sub section, common guys PM me your apps. This does not mean that we are not needing modelers and texture artists as well.
I have found people to do Iranian voices. But if you are still interested please apply.

Why not?ComradeChaos wrote:BTW, we aren't replacing the MEC.
There's no point in keeping MEC if we have an Iranian faction that uses a significant amount of MEC equipment anyway.
The only thing that makes MEC worth keeping is it's generic nature, but there's nothing stopping Iran from partaking in battles across the Middle East in PR because there is no premise/story.

It's quite a tall claim to replace a whole faction. I guess it is a "we'll see."Snazz wrote:Why not?
